Abstract:
Disclosed herein are sealing solutions for sealing water-soluble films, in particular aqueous mixtures including one or more polymeric solvents such as polyols. Aqueous sealing solutions including a relatively dilute solvent for one or more polymeric components of the water-soluble film (e.g., water-soluble polymeric components thereof, such as polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH)) can exhibit one or more benefits, including a reduction in dissolution of the film by the sealing solution and an increase in seal strength. Also disclosed are sealed articles formed with the sealing solutions, for example water-soluble packets containing various liquid or solid compositions.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an ocular device including a first structure formed of a first material providing a first shape to the ocular device prior to positioning the ocular device on the surface of the eye, a second structure formed of a second, different material having a tubular structure and a lumen through which the first structure extends, and at least one therapeutic agent is dispersed within the second material of the second structure. The first shape of the ocular device conforms to a second, different shape after positioning the ocular device on the surface of the eye. Upon being removed from the eye, the ocular device retains the second shape or changes to a third shape different from both the first shape and the second shape. Related apparatus, systems and method are described.
Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for making one or more tubular components of medical catheters or other tubular bodies using a strip of polymer material including a length, a width, and a first surface including a lubricious or other coating or surface modification. The strip is directed adjacent an elongate mandrel, such as beading, such that the length of the strip extends along the mandrel and the coating is disposed towards the mandrel. The strip is rolled at least partially around the mandrel such that the coating or surface modification is disposed inwardly towards the mandrel, and one or more strip-constrainment members are wrapped around the rolled strip. The directing, rolling, and wrapping steps may be substantially continuous to create one or more strip-mandrel-constrainment member subassemblies.
Abstract:
An improved pouf or soap-holding lathering and scrubbing device which can conveniently hold a bar of soap and create copious aerated lather when wetted and massaged or manipulated comprises a sheet of mesh material which is formed or folded into a compact mass or arrangement. The sheet is formed or supplied in an endless loop or ring which is then compressed in a direction parallel to the sheet to form a ring of compressed or folded mesh material that has a recess. The compressed ring is then secured in its compressed state by two or more ties. A cord can be threaded through the compressed ring and cinched by an O-ring or other device to enable the cord to hold a bar of soap in the recess.

Abstract:
A liquid absorbent article includes an absorbent core including a liquid absorbent member and a unitary liquid distribution sheet disposed against a surface of the liquid absorbent member. The liquid absorbent member includes a first absorbent layer surface, a second absorbent layer surface, a third absorbent layer surface in contact with the second absorbent layer surface, and a fourth absorbent layer surface. The unitary liquid distribution sheet includes a first distribution layer surface in contact with the first absorbent layer surface of the liquid absorbent member and a second distribution layer surface in contact with the fourth absorbent layer surface of the liquid absorbent member.

Abstract:
Apparatus and methods are provided for making coated liners and/or tubular devices including such coated liners. A sleeve may be provided that includes an outer first surface and an inner second surface extending between first and second ends thereof, and a hydrophilic or other coating may be applied to the first. The coated sleeve may be cut between the first and second ends to create opposing edges extending between the first and second ends, and the cut sleeve may be reversed such that the coated first surface defines an inner surface and the opposing edges are disposed adjacent one another, thereby providing a coated liner. Optionally, a tubular structure, e.g., one or more reinforcing layers and/or or outer layers may be attached around the coated liner, thereby providing a tubular device including an inner surface with a desired coating.
Abstract:
A V-grooved composite insulation is provided with an adhesive coating and a protective jacketing material bonded to the adhesive. The protective jacketing material extends beyond the perimeter of the grooved insulation board and comprises at least one intact release layer at a location in which the protective jacketing is clear of contact with the bottom surface of the insulation member and a pressure sensitive adhesive between the portion of the protective jacketing material and the at least one release layer. The method also comprises preshaping the grooved insulation board around a pipe by bending the grooved insulation board, removing the release layer of the protective jacketing material, thereby exposing the pressure sensitive adhesive and securing the pressure sensitive adhesive to the protective jacketing to thereby surround the pipe in a vapor free manner. Grooved insulation boards with protective jacketing so constructed are also provided.
Abstract:
An example includes a method for forming tubular lengths of linear web material. The example can include winding a portion of linear web material in a tubular configuration such that opposite vertical ends of said linear portion overlap. The example can include welding said overlapping ends to fix said linear portion of linear web material in sleeve configuration. This welding can include heating up at a first temperature a first region of said portion over the whole of which said ends overlap and heating up at a second temperature lower than said first temperature a second region of said portion adjacent to said first region, said ends of said portion of linear web material overlapping over only a part of said second region.
