A transmitter using constituent encoders to generate turbo-encoded bit sequence having variable bit order from an information bit is provided. Each constituent encoder encodes a bit to a bit sequence and each bit sequence from respective constituent encoder has same error correction performance in decoding. Each encoded bit sequence is punctured using optimal puncturing pattern based on code rate and the resultant sequences have the same error correction performance. A receiver receives each bit sequence and depunctures with an optimal depuncturing pattern to decode bits efficiently.

Method for configuring a transmission chain in a 3GPP2 system for supporting a flexible or variable data rate of an information bitstream in a process for mapping an information bitstream of a data rate on a physical layer, including the steps of (1) channel coding the information bitstreams with bit rates different from each other into turbo codes or convolution codes having a value inverse of 1/coding rate, and (2) repeating coded bitstream when the channel coded bitstream is smaller than a desired interleaving size, and puncturing the coded bitstream when the channel coded bitstream is greater than the desired interleaving size, for matching the channel coded bitstream to the interleaving size.

The self-erecting structure has resilient lower and upper support loops which provide it with shape and support. Fabric covers the support loops, and is permanently affixed to the support loops. The fabric has a lower, waterproof portion and an upper insect protection portion. The fabric is preferably treated to provide it with insect repellent and insecticide properties. The support loops are made of flexible, resilient rods made of a material, such as a vinylester and fiberglass combination having a diameter selected to enable the support loops to be folded into six loops, whereby the structure can be compactly stored in a rucksack. The method of folding the structure so that it can be stored in such a compact space is also disclosed.
