Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein provide techniques for deciding when to use FEC to transmit a message between node devices in a mesh network. In various embodiments, a method includes receiving, by a communication application executing on a first node of a mesh network, a message; determining, by the communication application, a second node in the mesh network to transmit the message to, the second node being a neighbor of the first node; determining, by the communication application based on a history of forward error correction (FEC) and non-FEC transmissions with the second node, that FEC or non-FEC should be used to transmit the message; and transmitting, by the communication application, in response to determining that FEC or non-FEC should be used to transmit the message, the message to the second node using FEC or non-FEC.

Abstract: A transmitter apparatus wherein a simple structure is used to successfully suppress the degradation of error rate performance that otherwise would be caused by fading or the like. There are included encoding parts that encode transport data; a mapping part that performs such a mapping that encoded data sequentially formed by the encoding parts are not successively included in the same symbol, thereby forming data symbols; and a symbol interleaver that interleaves the data symbols. In this way, a low computational complexity can be used to perform an interleaving process equivalent to a bit interleaving process to effectively improve the reception quality at a receiving end.

Abstract: A system and method for wirelessly transmitting audiovisual information. A first plurality of packets including audiovisual information may be generated. A second plurality of packets including error correction coding information for the audiovisual information may be generated. Control information for associating the error correction coding information with the audiovisual information may be generated, and a third plurality of packets including the control information may also be generated. The plurality of packets, including the first, second, and third pluralities of packets, may be transmitted to a mobile device in a wireless manner. The control information may inform the mobile device of the association of the first error correction coding information with the audiovisual information.

Abstract: A first communication device generates a physical layer (PHY) preamble of a PHY data unit. A signal field of the PHY preamble includes i) a common block of information bits having information for multiple second communication devices and ii) a plurality of user blocks of information bits, each user block having information for a respective one of the multiple second communication devices. The common block includes a frequency resource unit allocation field that defines a plurality of frequency resource units corresponding to a PHY payload of the PHY data unit. The user blocks respectively correspond to frequency resource units defined by the frequency resource unit allocation field. Each user block includes an indication of a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) used in the corresponding frequency resource unit. Each group of two user blocks is encoded as a respective second encoded block to allow the multiple second communication devices to efficiently decode the signal field.

Abstract: A wireless device generates a High Efficiency Signal B (HE-SIG-B) field by Block Convolution Code (BCC) encoding and rate-matching a BCC block of the HE-SIG-B field, generates a Physical Layer Protocol Data Unit (PPDU) including the HE-SIG-B field, and transmits the PPDU. A total number N is a total number of bits of the HE-SIG-B field that precede the BCC block, and is greater than 0. The BCC block has a puncturing pattern depending on the total number N. A wireless device receives a PPDU. The PPDU includes an HE-SIG-B field that includes an encoded BCC block. The wireless device de-rate-matches the encoded BCC block having a puncturing pattern depending on a total number N. The total number N is a total number of decoded bits of the HE-SIG-B field that preceded the BCC block, and the total number N is greater than 0.

Abstract: Modern mobile communication systems transfer data by error protection measures including the use of a forward error correction code for the channel coding and a HARQ (hybrid automatic repeat request) system for the repeated transfer of incorrect transport blocks in response to the error protection mechanisms failing. When a turbo code is used as an error protection code, two decoders work on the decoding of the turbo code. Disclosed is an expanded HARQ system wherein the receiving side determines which of the decoders was more greatly challenged in the decoding of the turbo code and reports this to the transmitting side. Instead of uniformly providing more redundancy data to both decoders, more redundancy data are targetedly provided to the more greatly challenged decoder in the expanded HARQ process than in the case of the repetition operation according to the typical HARQ process reducing the latency of the data transfer.
