Abstract: A method and apparatus for capturing an image of at least one object appearing in a wide-angle field of view (FOV). A housing has an image sensor and a lens assembly fixedly mounted relative thereto. The lens assembly includes first and second lens groups, and a glass lens. The lens assembly and the image sensor are aligned such that light received within the FOV passes through a front aperture and the base lens assembly and impinges onto the image sensor. The light received from the FOV forms an original image prior to entering the front aperture and the lens assembly. Light from the FOV impinging onto the sensor forms an impinging image.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for illuminating at least one object appearing in a field of view (FOV). An illumination system includes an illumination source configured to provide illumination to illuminate a target of the object. A collimating lens is configured to collimate the illumination and to provide the illumination to a fixed multiple lens array (MLA). The fixed multiple lens array provides the illumination to a movable MLA. The movable MLA is configured to provide the illumination to the target to illuminate the target. The position of the movable MLA may be adjusted to alter the illumination full field angle.

Abstract: Autofocus (AF) optical arrangements and assemblies including a voice coil motor (VCM) are disclosed. An example optical assembly for a focusing lens includes: a front lens group disposed along an optical axis configured to receive light from the object of interest and configured to correct for aberrations of a first image projected by the front lens group; an aperture disposed along an optical axis configured to receive light from the front lens group therethrough along the optical axis; a moveable focus lens to receive light through the aperture; a VCM configured to move the focus lens to focus the optical assembly; and a back lens group disposed along the optical axis configured to receive light from the focus lens and further configured to correct for field curvature.

Abstract: Methods and systems for tracking focus of an adjustable variable focus lens-based imaging system are disclosed. An example method includes identifying an initial focus position of an adjustable variable focus lens assembly and determining focusing parameters corresponding to that focus position. The focusing parameters are compared to a lens behavior model and a new, compensated focus position of the lens assembly is determined correcting for changes in lens assembly performance. A small window focusing sweep range, between forward and aft positions, may also be adjusted based on the lens behavior model to better identify the compensated focus position.

Abstract: Symbology readers and methods of reading DPM codes on objects therewith are provided. The symbology reader include a housing that defines a cavity having a first portion and a second portion. A window that separates the first portion and the second portion of the cavity is positioned within the cavity. The symbology reader includes a diffuser configured to diffusingly reflect light that impinges thereon positioned within the first portion of the cavity. The symbology reader includes an imaging assembly and a first illumination assembly positioned within the second portion of the cavity. The symbology reader includes an optical element configured to direct illumination light to impinge upon the diffuser.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for directing an aim light through a window of an image reader. The window has a cylindrically curved section. The aim light impinges on a portion of the cylindrically curved section of the window prior to partially passing through the window. A first amount of the aim light is passed through the window, and a second amount of the aim light is reflected into the cavity resulting in reflected aim light. The reflected aim light is directed away from the imaging assembly such that no or substantially no reflected aim light impinges on the imager of the imaging assembly.

Abstract: Systems and methods for user choice of barcode scanning ranges are provided. This is achieved through the identification of a predetermined pixel-per-module threshold range. The pixel-per-module of a barcode being read by a reader is compared to the predetermined pixel-per-module threshold range, and a successful decode of the barcode is carried out only if the pixel-per-module of the barcode falls within the predetermined range. Thus, a user may select a desired reading distance range such that barcodes within a working distance range may not generate successful decodes if such barcodes are outside of the desired reading distance range.
