    摘要: A mechanical seal for providing fluid sealing between a housing and a rotatable shaft includes a first seal ring having a first seal face and a second seal ring having a second seal face. The first seal face further has a first portion and a second portion and the seal faces of the first and second seal rings are opposed to each other when assembled. The first seal ring or the second seal ring is adapted to rotate with the rotatable shaft, and the other seal ring is restrained from rotating. The seal is a non-contacting seal that provides for the introduction of a barrier fluid between the seal faces. A first surface of the first seal ring and a first surface of the second seal ring are exposed to the process fluid. An opening force is developed between the first and second seal faces that inhibits contact between the seal faces. The seal further includes a system for regulating the opening force on the seal face as a function of the difference between the pressure of the fluid introduced between the seal faces, i.e., the barrier fluid, and the pressure of the process fluid.

    摘要: A mechanical seal assembly having dual seals in which the seal faces of the primary seal members remain essentially perpendicular to the shaft of the equipment being sealed regardless of any misalignment between the shaft and the equipment has a sleeve for mounting on the shaft to provide a support structure wherein all primary seal member faces are aligned with respect to this support structure regardless of loading. The primary seals are biased toward the support structure by the combination of net hydraulic pressure at the mated seal faces plus steady bias from a minimally flexing biasing source, such as compression springs, at one end of the sleeve. Another embodiment further includes a gland mounted to the equipment concentrically to the equipment shaft and an axially floating annular flow ring located within the gland. The ring non-rotatably mates with the primary seal members and the gland, and can shift axially. The ring supplies a fluid flow channel associated with the shaft vanes and which can travel with the vanes to accommodate shaft endplay.

    摘要: A mechanical seal that employs a lock ring assembly having associated therewith a locking mechanism. The locking mechanism can include a nut element, such as a barrel nut, that allows an associated bolt element to adjust a tightening load and position while clamping occurs of the components of the mechanical seal. This adjustment flexibility removes or reduces unwanted bending stresses in the bolt element, thus allowing for more torque to translate directly to the lock ring. The barrel nut allows for more material to remain in the lock ring, thus providing for additional overall strength relative to a traditional locking element. The lock ring also includes a plurality of flex regions in the form of notches that allow the lock ring to flex when the main body is tightened about the shaft.

    摘要: A mechanical seal that employs an axially movable spring holder plate that engages a sealing element, such as an O-ring, associated with a stationary seal ring. In turn, the stationary seal ring can have a sealing face that engages with a sealing face of a rotary seal ring. The rotary seal ring can also have a sealing element, such as an O-ring, associated therewith. The O-rings are initially disposed in an unloaded position where they are not radially compressed and hence the ends do not expand circumferentially past the end faces of the holder or gland segments. The spring holder plate can be moved axially by tightening selected bolts associated therewith. When moved axially, the spring holder plate moves the stationary seal ring and the O-ring associated therewith in an axially inboard direction, thus placing the O-rings in a loaded position, where the O-rings are radially compressed.
