Abstract:
A rewinding machine winds a web material into a log about a core. The web material to be wound is directed about a rotating winding drum. A continuous loop is spaced from the winding drum and with the winding drum defines a nip through which the core is inserted and through which the web material is directed. A surface of the continuous loop opposite the winding drum across the nip is configured to move in a direction generally opposite of the winding drum for winding the web material about the core. A rider roll defines a winding space with the winding drum and the continuous loop. The rider roll is movable relative to the continuous loop and the winding drum to allow for an increase in a diameter of the log in the winding space during winding of the web material about the core.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a device and method for cleaning the surface of a printing roll, such as an anilox roll. The device includes a laser-equipped assembly adapted to project a laser beam on the surface of the printing roll. The laser-equipped assembly uses a reflector and a lens to guide the laser beam along a predetermined path on the surface of the printing roll. In some embodiments, an autofocus system may be included to move the lens so that the desired focal point for the laser beam on the printing roll surface is achieved.
Abstract:
A control method for a cutting blade, particularly for cutting-off machines for logs of web material, interrupts operation of the cutting blade when deformation of the blade reaches a preset deformation value and resumes operation of the cutting blade when the deformation of the blade is less than another preset deformation value. The control method measures deformation values of at least a portion of the cutting blade, compares the measured deformation values with at least one preset deformation value set by an operator, and sends, according to signals coming from the result of the comparison, control signals to a motor of the machine to control the start up and/or the stop of the motor.
Abstract:
Apparatus for gluing the final tail of rolls or logs of wound sheet material includes a glue distributor device located below an opening in a roll down table. The tail of the roll is separated from the roll by a tail separating unit upstream of the opening. The gluing distributor device includes a tank containing glue, a rotatable pick up roll located inside of the tank and partially immersed in the glue, and a glue distributor roll positioned externally above the tank and provided with at least one paddle. The pick up roll picks up glue as it rotates, and the rotating paddle contacts the pick up roll and picks up glue as the glue distributor roll rotates. The paddle rotates into the opening in the roll down table, and glue is transferred from the paddle to a roll as the roll rolls over the opening. A cull roll can be culled without applying glue to the roll by mounting a cull roll support projection on the glue distributor roll which is not long enough to contact the pick up roll. The cull roll support projection is positioned in the opening in the roll down table when the cull log rolls over the opening.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for transferring a web to a mandrel to form a coreless, convolutely wound roll which includes an enveloping roller, first and second mandrels, a transfer roller and a cutoff mechanism in the path of travel of a web to be wound, advancing a web in partial enveloping relation with the enveloping roller and toward the first mandrel, moving the second mandrel to a position adjacent the web, orienting the enveloping roller and transfer roller to positions defining a pocket with the second mandrel in the pocket to define a nip between the second mandrel and enveloping roller, rotating the transfer roller in a direction opposite to the direction of advance of the web, and severing the web to provide a leading edge portion.
Abstract:
A method of cutting an elongated multi-ply flat surfaced ribbon of web material which includes advancing the ribbon along a linear path while rotating a pair of cantilever-mounted drums on opposite sides of the path to flank the ribbon flat surfaces, the drums each having a plurality of axially extending slots in the periphery thereof. A saw blade is adjacent the path and orbits through the path so as to have the blade orbit intersect the drum slot orbits to transversely cut the ribbon while the saw is advancing parallel to the linear path.

Abstract:
A surface winder for developing a convolutely wound log in which a core introduced into a winding nip is first rotated before engaging a web to effect cutoff and transfer.
