Abstract: A water-ballasted barrier system incorporates a concave reflective design, wherein outer walls of the barrier segment are configured in a concave manner. The concave section is designed to prevent the tire of a vehicle, impacting the barrier, from climbing up the side of the barrier segment, by pocketing the tire in the curved center portion of the barrier wall. Adjacent barrier segments are attached together using an interlocking knuckle design, having a lug pin connection system. In some embodiments, wire rope cable is internally molded into each barrier segment to strengthen the barrier system.

Abstract: A truck mounted attenuator (TMA) is constructed to minimize length during use in a horizontal position and height in a vertical transport position, as well as to minimize wind resistance and buffeting at highway speeds. A modular construction is employed, so that only damaged portions of the TMA can be removed and replaced in the field after a vehicle impact. The TMA comprises a plurality of outwardly curved tubular structural members which are designed to buckle upon application to the TMA of forces resulting from vehicular impact. The rigid tubes buckle at a high initial force, then proceed to crush at a lower force once the sides have buckled outwardly sufficiently to protect vehicle occupants during the critical first two feet of travel after impact. This design also provides increased protection for errant vehicles which impact the TMA device from an angle (i.e. “coffin corner” impact).

Abstract: Molded ribs are provided for use in connection with traffic channeling devices, such as drums, which employ external ballasting collars, such as molded rings or truck tire rings. The ribs are disposed at spaced intervals near the bottom of the external wall of the drum, for improving contact between the drum wall and the internal diameter of the ballasting collar, in order to eliminate undesirable separation of the drum and collar during ordinary use, and to prevent inadvertent rotation of the drum relative to the collar.

Abstract: A crash impact attenuator is adapted for deployment on a vehicle, and includes a cartridge portion having at least one energy absorbing module, as well as a backup system having a backup frame, which is adapted to attach the cartridge portion to the vehicle. The backup system includes an actuator configured to pivot the cartridge portion between a deployed orientation and a stored orientation about a pivot axis disposed on a lower half of the backup system. The backup system further includes a lockout frame member having a contact surface on one end thereof, the lockout frame member being actuatable between a deployed orientation wherein the contact surface engages a portion of the backup frame to support the backup frame against vehicular impact forces and a stowed orientation wherein the contact surface is not engaged with the backup frame.

Abstract: Molded plastic barrier segments, typically water or sand-ballasted, are engineered to be attached together, end-to-end, in a barrier array, with innovative features which result in low rotation between attached barrier segments. Such a low rotation barrier array will, upon impact by a vehicle, act as a re-directive barrier, rather than a capturing barrier, which is an important safety feature in some crash scenarios, particularly with respect to more recent safety specifications required by many governmental highway agencies.

Abstract: A system for displaying a desired reflective sheeting striping pattern on a traffic management device includes providing a portable panel having reflecting sheeting affixed to a face thereof, orienting the portable panel as desired, and affixing the panel to the device using fastener holes disposed about a perimeter of the panel. The displayed striping pattern may be easily changed by removing the panel from the device, turning the panel over to display an opposing side, on which is displayed a different striping pattern, and reattaching the panel to the traffic management device so that the opposing side of the panel is displayed, or by removing the panel from the traffic management device, rotating the panel by 90 degrees, 180 degrees, or 270 degrees, and then reattaching the panel to the traffic management device so that the same particular striping pattern is oriented in a different direction.
