Abstract:
A single three-wire-port PBX intercom trunk circuit supplies battery, ringing, and supervision through a switching network from the trunk circuit to a pair of interconnected stations. The intercom trunk circuit and line circuits of the stations are arranged to provide all essential controls for the calling and called stations. Interconnections from the intercom trunk circuit to the stations are arranged so that talking current conducted to any one station is substantially independent of the loop resistance of any other station to which the one station is connected.
Abstract:
A dielectric resonator having a high effective dielectric constant, a high effective Q and a low effective temperature coefficient of dielectric constant is realized by a composite resonator comprising a first member including a paraelectric material such as, for example, TiO2 and a second member comprising either the ferroelectric material LiTaO3 or the ferroelectric material LiNbO3. Additionally resistive means applied to the ferroelectric material reduces the increased variations of the effective temperature coefficient of the resonator during rapid temperature changes. This feature is applicable to any microwave device incorporating a pyroelectric ferroelectric.
Abstract:
1. In a signaling system, a source of signal waves, a source of key waves, a transmission line or channel, means to allot periodic time intervals on said line to the transmission of signal indications thereover derived from said signals, means to produce signal indications for transmission and to encipher them comprising means to produce a pair of pulses of energy separated in time, and means to vary the absolute time positions of said pulses together under the conjoint control of said signal and key waves, one or the other of said two pulses always occurring within said time interval and the other always occurring outside said time interval, and means to transmit the former pulse over said line.
Abstract:
An adaptive n-bit DPCM encoder includes a standard delta modulator (DM) and n-bit counter to count the output pulses from the DM in forming a DPCM code word. A register stores a digital representation of the current step size which is updated after 2n input sample periods. Because the step sizes are constrained to be proportional to integer powers of 2 and because both the stepsize representation and the contents of the n-bit counter are transmitted together, it is always possible to linearize the DPCM code, e.g., prior to digital filtering, by merely shifting a number of bit positions indicated by the step size. A complementary transition is performed by a disclosed decoder.
Abstract:
In a multipoint data communications system a multipoint switch responds to polling signals on a signaling path from a central station by extending the signaling path to a selected one of a plurality of remote terminals. Thereafter the multipoint switch blinds itself to signals on the signaling path and remains blinded until there is an absence of signals on the signaling path for a predetermined interval of time. Communications apparatus at the selected remote terminal is enabled by a single frequency tone followed by a silent interval with the single frequency tone and the silent interval being common for all remote terminals.
Abstract:
An arrangement for electronically recording and displaying charges for calls made from station lines of a hotel or motel PBX is disclosed which eliminates the use of the prior art banks of electromechanical message registers. An electronic memory unit is accessed when a call is made and the number of the calling station is entered into a trunk memory word. When the central office sends message charging pulses to the PBX, the trunk word is accessed and the station number is read out. The station number then addresses the memory and the message count accruing in a memory byte assigned to the station word is incremented. Thereafter, the hotel clerk by dialing a prefix code and the station line number may obtain a display of the message count or dollar charges accruing for the station.
Abstract:
A low speed, parallel word generator is developed from a series connected pseudo-random word generator that comprises a maximal length feedback shift register with a modulo-2 adder in the feedback path. More specifically, the n cells of said shift register are reconnected to form a parallel m-rail output version of the series connected word generator. The m-rail output has a pseudo-random binary sequence that is normally the same as the pseudo-random output sequence of the series word generator. The reconnecting circuitry includes a plurality of modulo-2 adders selectively connected between predetermined cells of the parallel word generator. Clock pulse signals are applied to each of the cells of the reconnected circuit at a rate that is normally 1/m times the rate at which the series word generator is clocked. A skip mode is periodically established, after a preselected number of input clock pulses, to cause the parallel word generator to skip a normal clock pulse period and alternatively to advance the parallel format, pseudo-random, binary sequence by a selected additional amount.
Abstract:
Operation of a computer system is enhanced by means of a threedimensional tactile control unit interactively coupled by a software package to the computer. By means of a sticklike mechanism, which is mechanically controlled by a servomotor system and energized by computer-generated signals proportional to a stored definition of a three-dimensional object, the hand of an operator is restrained to move over the surface of the object. Hence, surfaces of a three-dimensional object, otherwise virtually impossible to display, may be ''''felt'''' by the operator.
