The flooring challenge systems induce unstable or insecure footing for poultry reared in pens by adding torque, stress and strain on key leg joints in order to exacerbate and accelerate the development of bacterial chondronecrosis with osteomyelitis lesions and lameness. The flooring challenge systems utilize one or more portable panels or sections that can be constructed in a wide range of sizes and configurations for installation in commercial poultry pens. In addition, the flooring challenge systems may utilize a device suspended a predetermined distance above the apex of the flooring challenge panel to subject the poultry's legs to asymmetric twisting and enhanced instability by forcing the birds to straddle opposing slopes near the apex of the flooring challenge panel.

摘要： A chicken or poultry grow out facility utilizes a ventilated floor assembly including a ventilated floor through which liquid and gas can flow, but which retains manure and other solids deposited thereon, and a bottom air plenum underneath the ventilated floor which is vented to the poultry growth chamber. A liquid and vapor barrier sheet preferably covers the ground surface underneath the floor assembly which together insulate the high temperature of the grow-out facility from the heat sink effect of the lower temperature ground. Conventional tunnel ventilation of the chicken or poultry house through the ends of the house creates a negative pressure inside the growth chamber and air plenum relative to the outside environment. As a result of this tunnel ventilation and negative pressure, moisture in the manure evaporates into the air in the growth chamber and into the bottom air plenum to effectively dry the manure retained on the floor and reduce ammonia formation and bacteria growth.

摘要： A washer and method for cleaning poultry pads or similar items includes a tub which rotates around a horizontal axis. The tub is mounted on a wheeled frame for towing by a car, tractor or other vehicle. Dirty, soiled pads are placed in the tub on-site and the door is then secured. As the tub rotates during its washing cycle the pads are sprayed by water jets positioned along the interior central water conduit. Water collected in a drain is discharged at each revolution through an open gate valve located on the bottom of the drain. Baffles inside the tub agitate the pads and water, thus improving the cleaning ability of the washer.

摘要： Multi-tiered cage assemblies are paired in spaced end-to-end relationship within a brood house. The floors of the cage assemblies are sequentially movable between the paired assemblies. During an initial sequence of such movement, newborn chicks are placed on the floors as they pass through the space separating the cage assemblies, and continued floor movement carries the chicks into the cage assemblies. The tiers are vertically spaced from one another by a distance limited to that sufficient to provide headroom for a chick approximately three weeks of age. During the period the chicks are maintained in the cage assemblies, feed and water are continuously supplied to the chicks. When the floors are sequentially returned to the cage assemblies from which they previously had been moved, the chicks are dropped onto conveying means which carry the chicks to a motor vehicle for transport to a finishing house where grow-out is completed.

摘要： The invention pertains to a subfloor for use in egg laying cages wherein the subfloor prevents caged fowl from catching their spurs in the conventional floor grate. The subfloor is formed of longitudinal and transverse members spaced apart a distance equal to the spacing of the corresponding elements of the cage floor. However, the subfloor is so located upon the cage floor that the resultant floor openings are only one quarter the area of the previous floor openings providing superior support for the bird's feet and preventing spurs from being caught in the cage floor. As the subfloor is loosely supported upon the cage floor, relative movement therebetween produces a self-cleaning action.
