摘要: An evaporator and condenser unit for use in distilling a liquid, such as water, includes a rotary heat exchanger plate having a plurality of accordion-style folds, and having its two ends joined together so as to give the folded plate a generally circular form. The adjacent panels of the folded plate define spaces between their oppositely facing surfaces, and these spaces are alternatingly configured as evaporating and condensing chambers. The evaporating chambers have their inner edges sealed by corresponding folds, while the condensing chambers have their outer edges sealed by corresponding folds. The folded plate is disposed between first and second end plates, and is mounted for rotation about its axis in a housing having a sump containing the liquid to be distilled. Liquid is supplied to the evaporating chambers and compressed vapor is supplied to the condensing chambers. Condensate is removed from the condensing chambers.

摘要: Liquefaction apparatus and method for removing liquid molecules from a vaporous or gaseous medium, use being made of an annular porous layer (5) of van der Waals-type material through which the medium is radially outwardly directed, the layer being rotatably driven to discharge by centrifugal force the liquid modules that are bound by van der Waals forces in the layer. The layer is mounted concentrically on the inner periphery of a rotatably driven cylindrical separator member (4) having an annular wall portion provided with a passage system at least the outlet portion of which terminates in a plurality of radial passages (17) through which the liquid molecules are centrifugally discharged. In one embodiment, the separator member is cooled by a cooling bath (18) the liquid of which is recirculated through a refrigeration-type heat exchanger (12). In a second embodiment, a portion of the liquid condensate (14)in which the separator member is at least partially submerged is cooled by passage through a refrigeration-type heat exchanger (12).

摘要: A method of, and apparatus for, condensing vapors formed in a thermal separator upon removal of moisture from a material. The vapors are infed to a mechanical separator where there is separated material containing solids and liquids and brought into contact with the material to be separated in the mechanical separator which is effective as a cooling agent, whereby the vapors are condensed.

摘要: Systems and methods for generating a thin film of a fluid are described. In an embodiment, a fluid support structure may be configured to receive a fluid, such as water, at a top surface and to support the fluid over at least a portion of the top surface. Channels may be formed in the top surface of the fluid support structure. Wiper blades may be configured to move over the top surface in contact with at least a portion of the fluid to form the fluid into a thin film. The wiper blades may include protrusions corresponding to the channels. As the wiper blades move over the top surface, the protrusions may move within the channels forming a thin film of the fluid within the channels. According to some embodiments, the fluid support structure may be configured as an evaporation surface configured to facilitate the evaporation of the fluid.

摘要: This invention provides a simple and energy-efficient process for obtaining water from air through better use of the solid desiccants using a high heating cycle in a confined space, applying minimal air flow and avoiding the use of a chilled condenser plate. The process of obtaining water in this invention consists of the production of water using, in one embodiment, a rotating drum covered with a desiccating material, a device that generates heat in a confined space, and a collection chamber. The process begins with charging the adsorbent material, which captures water vapor from the environment. Then, a discharging stage occurs through which an area of the desiccated material is exposed to controlled heating in a confined space, allowing the trapped water vapor to be released from the desiccant. A very light air flow may also be applied to increase the draw of the water vapor toward the area of condensation. A collection chamber is installed under the drum, allowing condensation of the water vapor released from the desiccating material. The recovered water accumulates and is stored in a storage tank. This invention does not need a chilled condenser plate to obtain the water vapor released by the desiccating material. As the process takes place, the drum rotates in such a fashion that the area with the charged desiccating material can be heated, allowing the area with the discharged desiccant to be charged again.

摘要: A method for evaporating liquid, in which a drum 1 in which there are passages 8 which extend across the thickness of the drum wall 3 is rotated in a trough 5 containing evaporation liquid 6, while a gas is fed from the drum 1 to the passages 8 is provided. As a result of the gas being passed through, the liquid which has been absorbed by the drum 1 evaporates, with the result that heat is extracted from the system of drum 1 and gas passed through. Depending on conditions, the method can be used to cool, for example flows of processed water or to cool air or to desalinate water. A device for carrying out the method and a drum which can be used in the device are also provided.
