Abstract:
A product building system uses a stage movable in X-Y-Z directions for holding and moving a product. A fixed laser is focused on a spot on the products. Strips of materials are fed tangent to a forming direction from two sources on a rotating platform. The laser continuously or periodically welds and fuses a strip on the product. Relative motion bends the strip to the desired product shape. The laser cuts a strip and welds a new strip to form alternating layers. Side by side strips are butt-welded. Cores are formed differently from outer surfaces, using the continuous feeding, welding, fusing, bending, welding and fusing process. A mill on the rotating platform brings a mill end tool into contact with the layers to smooth lateral and upper surfaces.
Abstract:
Apparatus for applying a coating of a slurry of a powdered solder material and a binder to the inner surface of a hollow metal cylinder. The apparatus includes solder material coating device including a coating nozzle which may be moved between a coating position within the interior of the hollow metal cylinder and a non-coating position; a guide for guiding and transporting a hollow metal cylinder towards the nozzle; means for rotating and supporting the hollow metal cylinder when the nozzle is in the coating position. The solder coated metal cylinder is used, for example, to provide an exhaust gas cleaning metal carrier in which a metal honey inner core is inserted into and soldered by the solder slurry applied to the hollow metal cylinder.
Abstract:
The present invention aims to produce a metallic carrier which enables a catalyst to be activated in a short time. In mutually joining an insulated heat resisting alloy and a heat resisting alloy having an insulating film, particularly composed mainly of alumina, a joining material of a laminate, formed by laminating a strongly reducing metal, which can thermodynamically reduce alumina, and a brazing material to each other, is disposed so that the strongly reducing metal comes into contact with the insulated heat resisting alloy, and the resultant laminate is heated in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to carry out a brazing treatment. This enables only portions in the honeycomb structure, where electrically conductive paths are to be formed, can be joined, and, at the same time, heat resisting alloys having a surface covered with an insulating oxide film can be firmly joined with the resultant joint having an electrical conductivity. The above joining method can be utilized to provide a preheat type metallic carrier having an excellent conversion efficiency, wherein only a surface layer portion on the side of an inlet for an exhaust gas can be heated.
Abstract:
A metal carrier and a production method thereof for carrying an exhaust gas cleaning catalyst for automobiles, autobicycles, and industrial equipment. The metal carrier includes a metal honeycomb core body pressed into a metal outer cylinder, and the joined portion of the a flat plate and a corrugated plate forming the metal honeycomb core body includes a solder material coated in spots or stripes at peaks of corrugation of the corrugated plate. The solder material in the joined portion of the flat plate and the corrugated plate has a thickness of less than 100 .mu.m, the positions of the joined portions are different between the surface and backside of the flat plate and corrugated plate, and the joined portions are present through an unjoined area having a length of more than 5% of the length of the metal honeycomb core body from an end face of the metal honeycomb core body at the exhaust gas inlet side.
Abstract:
A core strip for a honeycomb core panel is composed of a metal strip shaped into a corrugated configuration and having continuous alternate convex and concave portions of identical shape, each of the convex portions being defined by a plateau portion and a pair of inclined portions, and each of the concave portions being defined by a bottom portion and the pair of inclined portions. The inclined portions interconnect the plateau portion and the bottom portion. At the one side edge of the shaped metal strip, the plateau portion and the inclined portions have respective first flanges disposed perpendicular to the metal strip and directed away from a convex surface of the convex portion. At the other side edge of the shaped metal strip, the bottom portion and the inclined portion have respective second flanges disposed perpendicularly to the metal strip and directed away from a convex surface of the concave portion. With this construction of the core strip, the core strips can be welded together with high uniformity and high weldability, and the thickness of the core strip can be greater than that of a conventional one. In the formation of a honeycomb core panel, such core strips can facilitate the bonding between a core and face sheets, and also enable a stable bonding.
Abstract:
A method for producing honeycomb-like brazed metallic catalyst carrier bodies, includes applying brazing material to thin structured metal sheets, subsequently heating areas to be brazed with laser beams producing brazed connections, and rolling or laminating the metal sheets in alternating layers. An apparatus for producing the bodies and the bodies themselves are also provided.
