    摘要: In an electrically heated catalyst which is arranged in an exhaust passage, electric leakage is suppressed as much as possible. The electrically heated catalyst comprising: a heat generation element; an electrode; a case; an electrode chamber; and an electrically insulating holding member that is inserted between the outer peripheral surface of the heat generation element and the case, and has an abutment joint portion formed by a pair of end faces which connect from an upstream side end portion to a downstream side end portion of the holding member, and which are arranged in opposition to each other, and an opening portion which is constructed so as to form a predetermined space connected with the electrode chamber in the surrounding of the electrode. The abutment joint portion is arranged in a position which excludes the opening portion, and in which it is not exposed to the electrode chamber.

    摘要: The heating method of honeycomb structure includes a heating step of supplying a power to a honeycomb structure body of a honeycomb structure including the tubular honeycomb structure body having porous partition walls to define and form a plurality of cells and a circumferential wall positioned at an outermost circumference, and heating by electricity conduction, and a catalyst loaded onto the partition walls of the honeycomb structure body, to heat the honeycomb structure body up to a target temperature, and in the heating step, there is provided, at least once, a supply power decrease section where the supply of the power to the honeycomb structure body is stopped or the power to be supplied to the honeycomb structure body is decreased before the lowest temperature in a heating region of the honeycomb structure body reaches the target temperature.

    摘要: The present teachings provide for an exhaust system device including a substrate body, a pair of electrical leads, and a resistance heating element. The substrate body can include a plurality of first walls that can extend between an upstream end and a downstream end of the substrate body. The substrate body can include a plurality of second walls that can be transverse to the first walls and can extend between the upstream end and the downstream end. The first and second walls can define a plurality of channels. The pair of electrical leads can be configured to be coupled to a power source. The resistance heating element can be disposed within or on at least one of the first or second walls and can be electrically coupled to the electrical leads to receive power from the electrical leads.

    摘要: A honeycomb body includes sheet metal layers forming a central current path to a radial connecting pin. A metal casing has an inner periphery and a feedthrough guiding and insulating the pin. The layers are alternate coarsely structured and finely structured or smooth sheets forming a stack with uppermost and lowermost layers forming axial gas channels. The pin is metallically connected to two or all of the layers directly or through an intermediate piece by an electrically conductive or welded connection. The current path has an electrical resistance per unit length in the connection region being greater than an average electrical resistance per unit length in the stack. The uppermost layer runs approximately parallel to the casing over 35% or 40% of the inner periphery and is separated from the casing by an air gap. Simple manufacture of a highly uniform, reliably operating, electrically heatable honeycomb body is thus possible.
