    摘要: A cleaning sheet has a base sheet, a foamed layer of a porous material on the base sheet and a polishing layer formed on the foamed layer. The foamed layer includes non-fibrous abrading particles and air bubbles. Such a cleaning sheet may be produced by preparing a paint having air bubbles dispersed inside by mechanically foaming a foaming material containing a foaming resin material and abrading particles, forming on the base sheet a foamed layer having abrading particles dispersed inside by coating a surface of the base sheet with this paint and drying it, and forming a polishing layer on the foamed layer. A probe having a tip may be cleaned with such a cleaning sheet by causing a surface of its polishing layer to be pressed against the tip of the probe and causing the tip of the probe to penetrate the polishing layer and further to be inserted into the foamed layer having abrading particles dispersed inside.

    摘要: An apparatus (46) for reconditioning a protective surface (30) of an optically-read digital recording disc (20) includes a turntable (48) configured to receive a center hole (24) of the disc (20) and a first motor (52), coupled to the turntable (48), for rotating the turntable (48) and the disc (20) at a first rotational speed. The apparatus further includes a buffing element (50) for removing an amount of material from the protective surface (30) as the turntable rotates the disc (20) and a second motor (54), coupled to the buffing element (50) for rotating the buffing element (50) at a second rotational speed. A timing element (56) synchronizes the first and second motors (52, 54) to substantially simultaneously cease rotation of the turntable (48) and the buffing element (50) following removal of an amount of material from the disc (20). The buffing element (50) includes a substantially rigid stabilizer plate (92) and a foam pad (88, 90) fixedly engaged with a plate surface (96) of the stabilizer plate (92). A buffing pad (82) is in fixed relation with the foam pad (88, 90). The buffing pad has a first surface (102) configured to face the foam pad (88, 90) and a second surface (104) configured to recondition the protective surface (30) of the disc (20).

The multi-layer adhesive and abrasive pad is constructed on the surface of a support structure, such as a silicon wafer, and is made of an adhesive in contact with abrasive particles. Adhesive is applied in layers with abrasive particles in-between each layer of adhesive. Abrasive particles may vary in size and material from layer to layer to achieve cleaning, shaping and polishing objectives.

    摘要: A technique for polishing metal objects such as, for example, those made of aluminum, stainless steel, and brass is described. The technique employs a metal-polishing apparatus which includes a double-jointed arm assembly and a table assembly. The arm assembly includes a brush assembly, a handle, and an actuating device. The double-jointed nature of the arm assembly advantageously allows an operator to effectively polish a detailed and ornate metal object. The table assembly has a frame, a rotatable table-top assembly, and a mechanism for securing the object. The metal object to be polished is placed on the table-top assembly and allowed to rotate with respect to the frame. The technique also relates to the preparation, polishing, and post-polishing methods employed with the metal-polishing apparatus. The present technique enables aluminum, brass, and stainless steel objects to be effectively polished, and therefore refurbished, by removing a significant amount of damage (i.e., scratches) from the metal object.
