摘要: A block and sleeve assembly is disclosed including a holder block, and a hollow sleeve. In radial cross-section, outer peripheral edges of the shoulder portion of the sleeve have a shape of a first polygon. The holder block and the hollow sleeve include cooperating rotation inhibiting features. For example, the holder block includes a stop projecting forwardly past a plane of the front face and positioned radially offset from a circumference of the opening in the holder block to allow a rearward surface of the shoulder portion of the sleeve to contact the front face of the holder block and to prevent rotation of the hollow sleeve greater than N degrees, N = 360 n , where n is the number of sides of the first polygon, by contacting an outer peripheral edge of the shoulder portion with the stop. A sleeve per se and an assembly including a cutting pick are also disclosed.

摘要: A high-impact resistant pick having a superhard material bonded to a cemented metal carbide substrate at a non-planar interface. The cemented metal carbide substrate is bonded to a front end of a cemented metal carbide bolster. A bore formed in a base end of the carbide bolster is generally opposed to the front end. A steel body has a shaft extending distally from a shelf, and which shaft is fitted into the bore of the bolster at an interface. A shank adapted for connection to a driving mechanism extends proximally from the steel body opposite the shaft. A washer is disposed intermediate the base end of the carbide bolster and the shelf of the steel body.

摘要: A cutting pick comprises an elongate shank and a cutting tip mounted to one end of the shank. The cutting tip has a leading end, a trailing end and a mounting portion for mounting to the shank. The tip has a shape such that it diverges outwardly in a direction from the leading end to the trailing end to a portion of maximum diameter. An annular sleeve is attached about the shank adjacent to and in non-contacting relationship with the trailing end of the cutting tip. The maximum diameter of the cutting tip is of greater diameter than the diameter of the inner diameter of the annular sleeve so that the portion of maximum diameter overlies the sleeve radially.

摘要: An exemplary breaking or excavating tool includes a body having a mounting end and a working end. A seating surface at the working end includes a cavity and axially projecting sidewalls formed integral to the body, an insert mounted within the cavity has a tip at an axially forwardmost end, a tapered forward surface, a side surface and a transition edge at an intersection of the forward surface and the side surface. A ring located radially outward of the projecting sidewalls is formed of a material harder than the body of the tool. The transition edge and an axially forwardmost surface of each of the sidewalls and the ring are arranged in an axially rearwardly extending stepped configuration. A material removal machine on which the breaking or excavating tool is mounted and a method of manufacturing the breaking or excavating tool are also disclosed.

摘要: A rotatable cutting tool includes a cutting tool body that has an axial forward end and an axial rearward end. The cutting tool body further has an axial length. There is a hard tip, which has a distal end, affixed to the cutting tool body at the axial forward end thereof. The cutting tool body has a clearance portion axial rearward of the distal end of the hard tip wherein the clearance portion has a transverse dimension. The clearance portion includes an axial forward transverse dimension and a minimum transverse dimension that is axial rearward of the axial forward transverse dimension. The axial forward dimension is greater than the minimum transverse dimension. The clearance portion has an axial length equal to between about ten percent and about thirty-five percent of the axial length of the cutting tool body.
