摘要: An elongated channel beam for supporting the surface of an underground rock formation includes a base portion with a bearing surface for contacting the rock strata and an opposite surface having a longitudinally extending central rib and flanged edges for resisting deflection and bending of the channel beam under the load of the rock strata. A plurality of openings spaced a preselected distance apart extend through the central rib. A bearing plate is positioned in overlying abutting relation with each opening in the channel beam. The bearing plate includes embossed areas and longitudinally flanged edges that overlie in abutting relation the central rib and flanged edges of the channel beam. The bearing plate is restrained from longitudinal and lateral movement on the channel beam. Anchor bolts extend through the aligned openings in the bearing plate and channel beam into bore holes drilled in the rock formation. Tightening the anchor bolt compresses the bearing plate against the channel beam with the compressive forces distributed over the surface of the bearing plate and transmitted throughout the channel member to support the rock formation.

摘要: A truss system is disclosed for use in supporting the roof of a mine. The system comprises an assemblage of elements which permit more rapid and efficient installation than prior art truss systems which have generally been installed as a secondary operation, after the standard, required bolting pattern is in place. The present system, on the other hand, may be installed concurrently with and in fact may become part of, the standard bolting system. The system includes a pair of roof bolts installed in conventional fashion in drill holes extending at divergent angles into the mine roof on opposite sides of the mine opening. The bolts each extend through aligned openings in a bearing support plate and a separate angle block having a curved outer surface. The closed ends of a U-bolt, having a curvature corresponding to the surface of the angle block, extend around the two blocks with the open, threaded ends of the U-bolts facing one another. A pair of blocks having three parallel openings therethrough are placed on the two U-bolts, the open ends thereof extending through the outer openings, and secured with nuts. A rod threaded at both ends, or a plurality of such rods joined by a threaded coupler, extends through the center opening of the block, thereby joining the two U-bolts, and is secured by nuts on each end. The truss is tensioned to a desired degree by threaded advance of the nuts on the U-bolts and/or coupling rods. The angle blocks are disclosed in two embodiments, the first having a planar surface engaged by the bolt head or a flat washer, and the second having an inwardly curved cavity surrounding the opening through which the bolt passes and is engaged by a mating washer on the bolt head. The design of the second embodiment permits considerable variation in the relative angular orientations of the truss elements.

摘要: The mine roof plate comprises a rigid, sheet steel element of substantially uniform thickness having a domed section which reinforces the plate against distortion. The domed section is at least partially of generally quadrilateral configuration, having a substantially square base and defines an elevated section having an aperture therein circumscribed by a generally planar land surface. The periphery of the plate is of planar, rectangular configuration and disposed in spaced parallel relationship to the elevated section. The configuration of the domed section, in having right-angular corner portions, defines thereby reinforcing ribs, along the domed section, which terminate at the planar periphery of the plate.

摘要: A bearing plate for supporting a portion of a mine roof or similar surface. The bearing plate includes a substantially planar, roof-bearing portion having a roof-bearing surface. Also included is a substantially planar bolt-head bearing surface. The bolt-head bearing surface includes a concentrically located aperature adapted to receive a roof bolt having a bolt head. The bolt-head bearing surface is spaced from the planar roof-bearing portion and is substantially parallel to the roof-bearing surface. A vertical wall extends from the bolt-head bearing surface about its outer periphery. A reinforcing wall extends radially outward from the distal end of the vertical wall and merges with the roof-bearing portion. The reinforcing wall defines a first frusto-conical portion, the base of which is conterminous with the roof-bearing portion, and a second frusto-conical portion, the base of which merges with the distal end of the first frusto-conical portion. The diameter of the base of the second frusto-conical portion is less than the diameter of the distal end of the first frusto-conical portion. The roof bearing surface of the bearing plate, when in use, supports a portion of the mine roof in response to a bearing force applied to the bolt-head bearing surface by the roof bolt. Some embodiments of the subject bearing plate contain embossed reinforcing ribs and dimples in the planar bearing portion.

摘要: A mine roof bolt assembly including a shank having anchoring means at one end for securing the shank in the back of the bore, the opposite end of the shank being threaded. A bolt head having a central bore, includes a first threaded bore portion threadedly engaged with the threaded end of the shank. A stop plug is threaded into a second threaded bore portion in the bolt head and abuts an end of the shank to initially limit penetration of the shank into the bore of the head. The bolt head is rotated by rotational means having a predetermined torque limit, moving the head longitudinally with respect to the shank, exerting a force on the stop plug which strips the threads from the second threaded bore portion, thereby permitting uninterrupted passage of the shank through the bore. A roof plate positioned on the shank between the bolt head and roof is then forced upwardly by the head into supporting engagement with the mine roof, and the predetermined torque of the rotational means is established.

摘要: A mine roof bolt of the type used in supporting the ceiling or roofs of underground mine passages is disclosed. The mine bolt includes an elongated shaft, threaded on one end with a stop member in the form of a hemispherical head provided at the other end. A bolt head is force fitted onto the shaft into abutment with the outer stop member. Similarly, a washer is also force fitted onto the shaft and into abutment with the bolt head. An inner stop in the form of an annular bead is formed on the shaft adjacent the underside of the washer.

摘要: A generally flat rectangular bearing plate particularly adapted to cooperate with a plurality of other such plates in supporting an underground mine roof. One face of the plate defines a support or bearing surface and a major embossed area extends outwardly from and generally longitudinally along the other face for purposes of increasing the support strength of the plate. The top or outermost wall of the major embossed area tapers outwardly relative to the one face from a minimum height at opposed end areas adjacent the lengthwise ends of the plate to maximum height adjacent the midpoint of the plate. The opposed side walls of the major embossed areas diverge outwardly relative to each other from each of the opposed end areas toward the transverse axis of the plate. A recessed area having a generally flat bottom wall is provided at substantially the midpoint of the plate and which recessed area extends inwardly from the major embossed area top wall area back toward the support or bearing surface. The bottom wall is inwardly recessed a distance sufficient to conceal the head of an elongated bolt member received through an opening in the bottom wall for purposes of rigidly affixing the bearing plate to a mine roof. A minor embossed area extending outwardly from the major embossed area and surrounding the recessed area may also be included to add even further structural strength to the plate. Loop-like hangers may be conveniently included to facilitate the stringing of electrical cables, telephone wires and the like through the mine shaft once the plate has been installed.

摘要: A component and method for evaluating load at a mine roof. An embossed bearing plate and a reinforcing washer are combined to thereby form a bearing system, wherein the bearing plate is a grade 2 plate (“x−1”), the bearing plate including a back surface which is adapted to contact a mine roof, an opposite surface and an aperture through which a shaft portion of a bolt can extend, the reinforcing washer including a rigid member having a first surface shaped to contact and complement the opposite surface of the bearing plate, a second opposing surface and a washer hole for alignment with the aperture through which the shaft can extend; driving a bolt with the shaft through the bearing system into a location of the mine roof, and, inspecting a curl of the grade 2 plate, wherein the curl and uniformity thereof is indicative of a load of around 20,000 pounds at the location.
