摘要： The present disclosure relates to a novel externally threaded fastener unit and the novel combination resulting from employment of said unit with an internally threaded element, such as a nut or the like, and the method of manufacture thereof. The fastener unit includes a headed screw member having a frusto-conical washer preassembled thereon and held in captive relation by the external thread form. Disposed adjacent the threaded portion of the screw member is an unthreaded neck section of a controlled cross-sectional dimension. This neck section is designed to have a dimension which is less than the minimum minor dimension of an internal thread designed in accordance with industry specified dimensions and tolerances for mating engagement with the external thread on said fastener. Thus, the screw member may be advanced along the internally threaded portion of said element, with said internal threads passing over the unthreaded neck section, without producing interfering engagement therewith, such that effective compression of the frusto-conical washer can be obtained regardless of the relative thinness of the workpieces being clamped with the fastener unit.

摘要： The present invention relates generally to improvements in spring type washers and more particularly to improvements in spring type washers which incorporate a central polygonally shaped section extending axially beyond an outer dished annular section. The embodiment of the invention disclosed herein includes a short rigid strut section integrally joining the inner and outer washer body sections and portions of the strut sections in the form of ribs are located intermediate the corners of the polygonally shaped body section. These ribs serve to counteract washer clamping forces which under certain conditions might otherwise tend to distort and thereby affect the satisfactory functioning of the strut section.

摘要： A fastener assembly wherein a sheet metal nut is rotatably coupled to a frusto-conical washer. The nut has an inner threaded barrel portion for engaging a cooperating male fastener element and an outer barrel portion which is particularly shaped for engagement by a tool for rotating the nut. The inner barrel portion is spacedly nested within the outer barrel portion and the respective barrel portions are joined at the upper end of the nut. The lower end of the inner barrel portion extends through a central aperture in the washer and is loosely curled under the edge of the aperture to provide a retaining collar. Adjacent the lower end of the inner barrel portion and the retaining collar, the inner barrel portion carries a peripheral bearing ring having a smooth undersurface lying at a selected acute angle to the longitudinal axis of the nut. The bearing ring is formed from metal skived from the outer wall of the inner barrel portion and compacted into the said ring configuration. The washer embodies a cylindrical lip projecting from its upper surface adjacent the aperture therein, and said lip has a smooth inboard surface which is complementary to and confronts the undersurface of the bearing ring on the nut. The outer barrel portion of the nut also includes a peripheral skirt at its lower end which rotatably bears on the adjacent convex face of the washer. The nut and washer components are free spinning with respect to each other and the said fastener assembly provides for a markedly improved torque-tensile relationship when the nut is turned onto a male fastener element and the washer is tightened against the confronting surface of an apertured member through which the male element protrudes.

摘要： The present invention relates generally to washer devices for operative association with the clamping side of rotary threaded fasteners such as screwheads and nuts, and more particularly to washers of the type which are adapted to yield axially when clamped in position against a work surface. The present application discloses a pair of spring-type annular, conical juxtapositioned washer bodies. Sections of the washer bodies intermediate the inner and outer margins thereof are deflected so as to provide increased lateral strength and abutting surfaces of limited area. The outer margin of one body is provided with flange means for interlocking with the other washer member so as to maintain said members in proper juxtaposition.

The first and second members include respectively first and second annular stepped portions axially overlapping and radially spaced. An annular metallic seal of resilient material of suitable polygonal cross section, preferably quadrilateral and symmetrical about a midplane normal to its axis in the absence of any loading thereon, is interposed axially and radially between the first and second stepped portions. When the members are urged axially towards each other, the seal is under compression and radially loaded only at a pair of diagonally opposite corner edges thereof to thereby provide high-unit pressure annular substantially line contact sealing between these edges and the members.
