摘要: An automated temperature control system for a barbecue grill or other structure comprises an automated damper assembly coupled to a vent of said grill, which damper assembly opens and closes selectively to adjust the flow passage area of the grill's vent. The system further comprises an operating area temperature probe for communicating the temperature of the operating area of the grill to the automated damper assembly, such that the automated damper assembly may maintain a user-specified target operating temperature by way of affecting combustion rates within the grill. A remote control may also be provided to allow the user to input a desired temperature for the system to obtain and/or to change temperature information for the grill or other structure.

摘要: Apparatus for capturing heat from a stove to enable it to be transferred to a central heating system is disclosed. The apparatus comprises an air-water heat exchanger, the heat exchanger having an air side and a water side and being operative to transfer heat between air on the air side and water flowing in channels in the water side. The apparatus includes an air duct through which air heated by a stove can pass by convection to contact the air side of the heat exchanger and control means operable to control the amount of air flowing to the heat exchanger. The control means may include a fan that can be operated to direct the flow of air to the heat exchanger.

摘要: A fireplace having a bottom venting arrangement is disclosed. The fireplace includes a firebox having a burner and a combustion chamber. Fumes produced by burning of gas at the burner are pulled into an upper exhaust plenum in the upper portion of the firebox. The upper exhaust plenum is in fluid communication with the combustion chamber. The upper exhaust plenum is also in fluid communication with an upper end of a substantially vertical exhaust passage. The lower end of the exhaust passage is in fluid communication with a blower opening in a bottom panel of the firebox. An intake side of a blower is attached to the blower opening. The blower also includes a discharge side, which is coupled to an exhaust port on the fireplace. The blower operates when a fire is burning, and fumes containing combustion products are drawn into the upper exhaust plenum. From the upper exhaust plenum, the fumes travel into the exhaust passage, and then travel in a downward direction to the blower opening and into the blower intake. Fumes are then exhausted from the exhaust port and into an external ducting arrangement, from which the fumes are vented to the atmosphere.

摘要: The need to maintain the quality of air in a home has become more of a problem in new high efficiency tight houses so that governmental regulations are being proposed for a minimum change of fresh air. If too much cold outside fresh air is introduced into such homes at a single source, the room with the fresh air is usually too cold and/or unbalanced. The present invention avoids cooling any one room while maintaining heat efficiency. When the home has a gas fireplace, the exhaust gases are preferably directed through an air-to-air cross flow heat exchanger which preheats the quality air passing into a forced air furnace system. In modified embodiments of the present invention, make-up quality air is mixed with the room air and heated in the heat exchanger of the fireplace. The preheated room air from the fireplace is preferably connected to the supply/return of a forced air furnace system and distributed to all rooms to provide uniform heating.

摘要: Apparatus for ventilating a fireplace having a combustion chamber within the interior of a building comprising an enclosure defining an air volume and a fan unit for generating a constant negative pressure region within the enclosure. A venting passage communicates the enclosure with the combustion chamber of the fireplace such that the negative pressure within the enclosure draws combustion gases from the combustion chamber into the enclosure to ventilate the fireplace. A valve is provided in the venting passage to control the flow of combustion gases to the enclosure. With this arrangement, the fan unit is operated at a constant speed to generate a constant negative pressure within the enclosure. There is no need to install an expensive variable speed fan to provide different levels of ventilation and, as long as the fan installed is sufficiently powerful to ventilate the enclosure, the valve can be used to adjust the ventilation of the fireplace combustion chamber via the enclosure.

摘要: Excess heat from a source such as a fireplace is absorbed into a liquid medium and transferred to storage for later use or to a distribution network for radiation at remote locations. The fireplace can be formed by heat conducting walls of a multi-chambered enclosure having an air guiding path for heating the air along with a liquid medium passing through the enclosure in a heat exchanger arrangement. The heated liquid medium can be stored and, when there is no combustion in the fireplace, returned to the fireplace enclosure for supplementary air heating. The liquid medium storage can include a tank having a pair of baffle plates in generally horizontal but diverging relation for producing heat layer stratification and separation of the liquid medium. Both cool and warm liquid medium are delivered between the baffle plates in proximity to the end of minimum vertical separation.
