    摘要: An improved read/write optical disk is disclosed which is capable of being rewritten more than 10.sup.6 times. The disk utilizes a storage medium in which data is stored by causing a localized region of the storage medium to assume one of two states. The two states can be converted from one to another by the application of electric fields to the localized region of the storage medium. The localized region in question is selected by illuminating an area on an addressing layer directly above the region in question with light. The preferred embodiment utilizes a lead lanthanum zirconate titanate material for the storage medium.

    摘要: This invention relates to a method of writing, erasing, and reading of a large volume, high-density information. The writing is accomplished by ionizing an element different from a substrate element, and scanning the substrate by a focused ion beam of the ionized element for depositing the atoms of the ionized element on or implanting them into the surface layer of the substrate in accordance with an information signal. The erasing is done by sputtering to scatter the written element existing on the substrate with a focused ion beam of another element. The reading is accomplished by scanning the substrate with a focused electron beam, and detecting a difference in the intensity of energy spectrum of the scattering electrons, secondary electrons and Auger electrons emitted by the element of the substrate and the written element.

    摘要: A coupler is secured to one end of the pickup arm carrying a signal pickup at the other end thereof. The coupler has a portion which comprises magnetized material. A support member is secured to a disc record player supporting structure which is subject to translatory motion along the longitudinal axis of the pickup arm during playback. The support member has a portion which comprises magnetizable material which is subject to releasable engagement with the coupler magnetized portion when the coupling is in a docked condition. Guide means are provided for prohibiting any rotational motion of the pickup arm coupler about (1) a first axis substantially normal to, and (2) a second axis substantially in registry with, the pickup arm longitudinal axis. The coupling rigidly transmits the translatory motion and maintains a specified attitude of the signal pickup in the disc record spiral groove during playback when it is in the docked condition.

    摘要: In a video disc playback system including a motorboard, a turntable, an information disc, a stylus, a stylus arm, and a stylus arm carrying structure, a universal stylus arm pivot coupling is provided for coupling the stylus arm to the carrying structure. The coupling comprises a generally horseshoe-shaped stylus arm holder affixed to the stylus arm. A plug, having a tapered end with a substantially circular cross-section, is fastened to the first leg of the arm holder. A support member, also generally horseshoe-shaped, is attached to the carrying structure. An opening, having dimensions permitting only a partial entry of and presenting complementary bearing surfaces for smooth engagement with the plug, is disposed in the first leg of the support member. A spring is connected between the second legs of, respectively, the arm holder and the support member. The spring member persistently urges the plug into the opening and provides tracking pressure between the stylus and the disc during playback.
