Abstract: A breathing apparatus comprises a cylinder assembly supported by a harness through a mounting bracket. The bracket has a leg with an open-ended slot into which a grooved portion of the cylinder assembly is passed. The assembly is secured by screwing a pressure-reducing valve onto the shut-off valve of the cylinder assembly, in so doing a knurled ring on the pressure-reducing valve coming into position adjacent to an edge of the bracket to prevent subsequent withdrawal of the cylinder assembly from the slot.

Abstract: A device capable of serving separately or simultaneously as a bag and as a flotation buoy has a body of sheet material with an access opening and apparatus for blowing in air to expand the body. Abstract: Apparatus for carrying a tank of compressed breathing gas on the back of a user having a main back plate molded portion with handle openings and webs therein, and slits for receiving shoulder straps. The shoulder straps are looped through the back plate slits and webs in a continuous manner to form a combination shoulder, chest, and waist strap interconnected by means of two quick release fittings.The quick release fittings comprise an upper and lower buckle fitting. The upper buckle fitting has four transverse members and the lower buckle fitting is fundamentally a rectangular loop with two transverse members.The breathing gas tank is secured to the plastic molded back plate by means of a surrounding band assembly that is secured to the plate by means of U-bolts. The band assembly can be expanded or contracted by adjustment of the U-bolts and a hooked tongue which secures the band to the plastic plate, as well as by means of an adjustable over-center latch.

Abstract: A padding element for the dorsal side of a diver's bottle-supporting backpack. Abstract: A diving back plate designed with independent shoulder and waist straps. The diving back plate accommodates either a single tank or double tank configuration without the need for an adapter. Abstract: A load support system is provided including a flexible frame unit attached to a shoulder support structure and to a hip belt assembly. The frame is pivotally attached to the hip belt assembly and is held in a slightly bowed configuration, whereby load is transferred from the frame to the hip belt through pivot points and a venting space is created between the frame and a user's back. The shoulder support structure preferably includes a pair of independently positionable shoulder straps that are removably attached to the frame. The hip belt assembly preferably includes a load support belt that may be coupled to the frame, and a hip pad coupled to the load support belt via a hook and loop fastening system. The suspension system may be used to support backpacks, and the like, or may be adapted for other applications including SCUBA tank support. The suspension system may be adjusted independently of the load and affords considerable freedom of movement when worn, due particularly to the pivotal attachment of the hip belt assembly to the frame and to the form of the flexible frame.
