摘要: In a feeder for dispensing moist feed pellets to fish in a fish farm, there are provided a feed storage hopper, a screen group for separating fish feed into edible-size pellets and feed waste, and a conveyor for conveying the feed material from the hopper to the screen group. The feed waste is collected in a receptacle for later recycling through a feed pellet extruder. The feeder also has an air delivery system comprising a venturi eductor and a nozzle for aspiring the edible-size pellets from the screen group and for delivering the pellets into an air stream directed toward a fish pen. Most importantly, the conveyor is a belt type conveyor with spaced-apart flights, providing this feeder with the ability to dispense discrete amounts of fish feed in an intermittent feed mode from the hopper, through the screen group and into the air delivery system.

摘要: A crustacean larva raising method includes the steps of providing a tank (50) to hold larva raising medium, continuously supplying sterilized, filtered larva raising medium to the tank (50) through outlets (64) adapted to cause horizontal circulation of the medium and at an outlet flow velocity preventing larva damage, continuously draining the medium through a drain assembly (65) including a larva screen and maintaining the medium at a selected temperature. Apparatus to carry out the crustacean larva raising method comprises of modular channel sections (51, 52) of the tank (50), which are bolted and sealed together, two sub tanks (53, 54), a UV sterilizer unit (55) incorporating temperature control means and a submersible pump (56) to circulate filtered and pre-sterilized medium. A crustacean larva feeding composition and a method for preparing such a composition are also provided.

摘要: A structure designed for raising large (commercial) quantities of pelagic fish. The structure, called an “Artificial Island Reef Platform” or “AIR Platform” is comprised of floating platform components with a large subsurface framework and cable network suitable for supporting a multiplicity of nets, each one enclosing and controlling a separate and distinct ocean volume. Various innovative design features permit the stable anchoring, supporting, and positioning of the AIR Platform, and control the distribution of oxygenated water and food, and the removal of waste products. Variants of this invention could be utilized for fresh-water fish farming in appropriate locations in lakes, reservoirs, or rivers.

摘要: An improved fish deterrent and guide, utilizing generally a paddlewheel (1) consisting of a central shaft (10) with vanes (12) to create a behavioral modifier. When paddlewheel (1) is rotated, the action of the vanes striking the water creates water particle motion (low frequency sound or infrasound), turbulence and current, as well as visual cues that fish avoid. The device is tunable for different fish species and life stages by adjustment of vane style, spacing, and paddlewheel rotation speed. The use of multiple behavioral deterrents creates a measure of reliability in the system. Another advantage is that this fish deterrent provides a continuous lead, which is more effective than typical point-source turbulence and sound generators. Typically, the paddlewheel fish deterrent and guide is positioned at the water surface across the intake to a power plant intake to deter surface oriented downstream migrating fish, and guide them to a bypass. In this configuration floating debris is also guided through the bypass. Alternatively, the paddlewheel may be positioned at a subsurface elevation to guide non surface oriented fish to the bypass, or positioned across the tailrace to guide upstream migrating fish to a fishway entrance.

摘要: A system for controlling a hydroelectric power production facility includes sensors for detecting the presence of fish adjacent to the facility. A controller linked to the sensors controls the orientation of control surfaces associated with a turbine/generator set to enhance the survivability of fish entrained into the facility when fish are detected to be present. The controller may instead or in addition activate projection arrays to guide fish to particular turbines or selected areas within the turbines that enhance the survivability of the fish passing through the turbines. The system may also be adapted to control fish bypass and spillway structures within the facility to further enhance the survivability of fish populations. The system balances fish survivability with other parameters related to the operation of the facility, optimizing power production levels once estimates of fish survivability meet targets or optimum levels. The system may be adapted to coordinate control of several facilities along a water system to permit implementation of an overall water, fish and power management plan.

摘要: The invention relates to a nucleus for the production of half or mabe pearls in molluscs. The nucleus comprises a first portion having an external surface adapted to define the shape of the half or mabe pearl to be produced and a second portion which defines a bridge between said first portion and the shell of the host mollusc. The half or mabe pearls so produced have a substantially even cross section of nacre formed over the nucleus, and a generally reduced time is required for the formation of the pearl.

摘要: A system and a method of growing shrimp, allowing balanced processes to accomplish the intensive culture of shrimp while reducing the risk of loss due to disease or environmental contaminants. Specifically, the present invention involves a unique combination of elements including: the use of specific pathogen free marine animal stocks, facilities which are effectively disinfected and isolated from sources of disease vectors and environmental contaminants, a beneficial, synergistic microbial population, and an aqueous medium of controlled composition. The system also comprises a specialized feed for supporting the microorganisms and marine animals, with zero-exchange of aqueous medium throughout the growout cycle such that the solids formed during operation, uneaten feeds, and fecal matter are retained in the system to provide an environment suitable for high yields and growth rates of marine animals.
