Abstract:
The present disclosure is directed towards a scour remediation and mitigation apparatus (100) comprising a plurality of channelled members (108) whereby the channelled members (108) are bound together to form the scour remediation and mitigation apparatus (100). The plurality of channelled members (108) each comprising at least one through hole (105) which forms a channel (105) through the channelled member (108). The plurality of channelled members (108) are bound together such that a plurality of conduits are formed by the channels (105) of the channelled members (108) and by voids (107) intermediate adjacent channelled members (108) within the scour remediation and mitigation apparatus (100). These plurality of conduits allow passage of a moving fluid through the scour remediation and mitigation apparatus (100) whilst simultaneously causing dispersion of kinetic energy of the moving fluid as it passes through the scour remediation and mitigation apparatus (100). The advantage of providing the plurality of conduits within the scour remediation and mitigation apparatus (100) is that the currents which are deflected off seabed structures, and which would otherwise erode at the seabed causing scouring, are diverted, deflected and dispersed through the plurality of conduits, thus mitigating the scouring effect. The energy is dissipated through the conduits and is slowed to the point where the particles on the seabed cannot be lifted and carried away.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to methods of using recycled rubber including recycled rubber from tires to absorb hydrocarbons. The method is particularly applicable to absorbing waste or contaminating hydrocarbons from solid surfaces or particles where hydrocarbons may have been spilt or otherwise have contaminated the surfaces. The methods may also be used for removing spilt hydrocarbons from a liquid such as crude oil spills at sea.
Abstract:
A tyre placement and filling apparatus (10) includes a receptacle for loose material 11. Movable legs (41) are adapted so that they couple to opposing sidewalls of a tyre. There is a movable leg assembly (12) which moves the legs to expand a tyre engaged therewith, and a forcing unit (13) is operable to cause the loose material from the materials hopper (11) to transferred to, and be compacted within the tyre.
Abstract:
A constructing method by using waste tires includes cutting sidewalls from waste tires; connecting multiple waste tires in series together by the sidewalls to form a layer of waste tires; filling the waste tires with ballast; and stacking another layer of waste tires on the previous layer with a staggered arrangement. An end member, being composed of a cut waste tire with two ends connected to an outer periphery of an unbroken waste tire, is provided at an end portion of the layers. Whereby, the construction built from waste tires can be used in projects such as a protection slope, road berm, riverbank, riverbed, etc., and has a good strength and a low cost.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a silt restoration device comprising a vertical support member having an upper end and a lower end, wherein the upper end is connected to an upper horizontal support member with the longitudinal length of the vertical support member being substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal length of the upper horizontal support member. At least one tire will be positioned on the vertical support member below the upper horizontal support member in a substantially vertical position. The tire will have a tread surface and a center space, wherein the vertical support member will impale the tread surface of the tire at two opposed points substantially along a diameter of the tire and substantially at a midpoint of a width of the tread surface. A lower horizontal support member will be connected to the vertical support member at a point on the vertical support member located below the tire with the longitudinal length of the vertical support member being substantially perpendicular to the longitudinal length of the lower horizontal support member, the upper horizontal support member and the lower horizontal support member being substantially parallel to each other and spaced sufficiently apart to accommodate a tire therebetween. An inner tire baffle will be positioned in the center space of each tire and connected to the vertical support member. A plurality of baffles will be connected to the upper horizontal support member and the lower horizontal support member, wherein the baffles are positioned within the open spaces between the tread surface of each tire and the upper horizontal support member and the lower horizontal support member. A stabilizer plate will be attached to the lower end of the vertical support member.
Abstract:
Lower sidewall portions (18, 20) of a vehicle tire (10) are spread apart by a spreader tool (28). Spreader bars (32, 34) are placed between the spread apart lower sidewall portions (18, 20) of the tire (10). Concrete (116) is poured in place in the tire. One or more iron members (120, 122, 124, 126) are placed in the tire (10) with lower portions in the concrete (116) and upper portions extending towards the inner side of the tread wall (26). At least one other iron member (120, 122, 124, 126) is positioned in the tire (10) with a lower end portion in the concrete (126) and an upper portion sloping upwardly and outwardly towards the inner side of the tread wall (26) on a diametrically opposite portion of the tire (10).
Abstract:
The aim of the invention is to provide an improved method for securing, stabilizing and recovering areas of land and subsoil above and below water. To this end, interlinked (used) motor vehicle tires (7) are used to secure the land. The necessary weighting is provided by concrete (19) injected into a protective casing (30).
Abstract:
Support member (10) has stabilizer plate (12) and upper (16) and lower (18) tire holders. Support member (10) spans the diameter of a vehicle tire (22), penetrating the treads of the tire. Upper (16) and lower (18) tire holders are spaced apart so as to closely engage tire (22) and maintain tire (22) at a desired vertical elevation. Cross bar (14) is fastened to support member (10) approximately one half way between upper and lower tire holders (16) and (18), with the ends of cross bar (14) engaging the sidewalls of tire (22), thus preventing rotation of tire (22) about support member (10). The apparatus is installed by driving support member (10) into a water bottom at a desired location, typically near a coastline, with tire (22) direction ally aligned so as to protect the coastline, typically by alignment of the sidewalls or face of the tire perpendicular to prevailing wave and tidal flow. A plurality of the apparatus may be installed so as to form a desired pattern, and a cable or other like connecting means strung through a retaining means at the upper end of each support member (10).
Abstract:
An improved geotextile container of the type for maintaining fill material. An end portion of the container is constructed to give enhanced strength when compared with the seamed ends in prior designs. Specifically, the closed end of the container is back-folded into the inner cavity to form a pouch. At least one anchor object is positioned in the pouch and tied off by a clamping mechanism situated about a neck portion of the pouch. As a result, the pouch is closed and the anchor object is maintained on the inside thereof. Due to this construction, an axially outward force imparted by the fill material will be directed against the inner surface of the bag instead of directly against the closed end. Various embodiments of this construction may also be used to interconnect small geotextile bags such that a larger container of a desired length may be constructed.
