摘要: Aquaculture apparatus includes an elongate tube of flexible translucent plastic material which extends longitudinally along level ground. The tube is inflated and air supported. At least the lower section of the tube defines a water course. The tube is closed at both ends to form a water enclosure. A number of such tubes are arranged in side-by-side relation and are covered by a plastic sheet cover layer. The cover provides an air gap to insulate the inner tubes and restrict heat loss. The tubes are used to form at least some of the modules of an aquaculture system for rearing fish and/or for effluent, waste or water treatment.

摘要: The present invention relates to methods of imprinting fish in freshwater with at least one odorant for the fish and causing the imprinted fish to react to the odorant in seawater, wherein the fish are maintained in freshwater prior to transfer to seawater. The method includes: adding at least one Polyvalent Cation Sensing Receptor (PVCR) modulator to the freshwater in an amount sufficient to modulate expression and/or sensitivity of at least one PVCR, the PVCR modulator being one which alters olfactory sensing of the fish to the odorant; adding feed for fish consumption to the freshwater, the feed containing the odorant and an amount of NaCl sufficient to contribute to a significantly increased level of the PVCR modulator in serum of the fish upon consumption of the feed, whereby the fish are imprinted with the odorant; transferring the imprinted fish to seawater; and providing a source of said odorant in the seawater to which the imprinted fish are transferred, thereby causing the imprinted fish to react to said odorant. The present invention also includes methods of homing or attracting fish, as well as methods for repelling fish by modulating the expression and/or sensitivity of the PVCR in the olfactory apparatus of the fish.

摘要: Incubation device (10) has a structure wherein an incubation tank (11) and a separation tank (12) are put into communication with each other at the lowermost parts via a narrow communicating port (13). A side opening (14) is formed in the separation tank (12). The wall of the lower part of an upper housing part (12a) and of the entirety of a lower housing part (12b) of the separation tank (12) are formed from a colored, light-shielding material OP. Sea water (D) is housed in incubation tank (11) and the lower part of separation tank (12), freshwater (E) is housed in the upper part of the separation tank (12), and an interface (F) between the sea water (D) and the freshwater (E) is formed inside the separation tank (12). Brine shrimp larvae (2) hatch in the incubation tank (11) and upon moving into the separation tank (12), move from the light-shielded lower part towards the unshielded upper part and eventually swim outside into an aquarium tank from the side opening (14).

摘要: Mussels are commonly grown on ropes which have been seeded with immature molluscs. Past techniques for farming mussels have suffered from low product yields because of the low surface area of a mussel rope, and mussel detachment from the rope. Existing devices for solving these problems are cumbersome and difficult to use. The present invention solves the problems by providing a mussel farming device including a planar body with a slot in one side thereof for receiving a rope or mesh bag, an aperture at the center of the body, and a clip in the aperture for attaching the body to the rope or bag. A plurality of such devices are attached to a rope or bag at intervals along its length, thereby providing a large surface area for mussel attachment and creating stable platforms on which the mussels can mature.

摘要: The aquarium backup system operates upon failure of the pump that provides aeration and/or water circulation to aquariums. The backup system includes a sensor for determining when the flow of water to the aquarium is interrupted due to a power outage or pump failure. The sensor then closes a switch in electrical circuit between a backup battery and a backup pump, which re-establishes the aeration and/or water circulation to the aquarium.

摘要: A neutrally buoyant synthetic aquatic structure may be used to treat a body of water by removing nutrients and other materials from the water. According to another aspect of the invention, the synthetic structure may be used to promote and/or control the growth of aquatic species in a body of water. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a denser-than-water ballast portion is suspended from buoyant material to stabilize and orient the synthetic structure. A high surface area structure for promoting biological growth may be provided. The ballast portion does not sink to the bottom of the body of water. Consequently, the high surface area structure may be maintained in the photic zone.

摘要: A bio-hydraulic testing system is provided for simulating the effect on fish of at least one hydraulic system component. A water flow introduction device introduces a flow of water into the testing system, and a fish introduction means introduces a plurality of fish into the testing system. A flow introduction conduit receives a flow containing water from the flow introduction device and fish from the fish introduction device. A testing module receives the flow from the flow introduction conduit. Monitoring device monitor and record fish activity in the water flow in the testing module. Fish exit the testing module into a flow exit conduit, and are collected by fish collection device located downstream of the exit conduit. Finally, discharge device discharge the water from the testing system.
