摘要: A frangible rupture disk and mounting apparatus for use in blocking fluid flow, generally in a fluid conducting conduit such as a well casing, a well tubing string or other conduits within subterranean boreholes. The disk can also be utilized in above-surface pipes or tanks where temporary and controllable fluid blockage is required. The frangible rupture disk is made from a pre-stressed glass with controllable rupture properties wherein the strength distribution has a standard deviation less than approximately 5% from the mean strength. The frangible rupture disk has controllable operating pressures and rupture pressures.

摘要: An insulated glass sealant having the best characteristics of polysulfides and polyurethanes rather than the worst is made from a polysulfide-based polyurethane which, in turn, is derived from a mixture of hydroxyl terminated polysulfides having a structure represented by the following formula: RCH2CH2OCH2OCH2CH2S[SCH2CH2OCH2OCH2CH2S]nSCH2CH2OCH2OCH2CH2R. wherein R═HO(CH2)ySS, y is from 2 to 6, and n is such that the molecular weight is from about 2500 to about 4000. The improved sealant of this invention is prepared by a one-step procedure wherein the hydroxyl terminated polysulfide of said formula is reacted with a polyisocyanate at a ratio between about 1:1 and about 1:1.2 on an equivalents basis. The hydroxyl-terminated polysulfide is made by splitting a polysulfide having a molecular weight about 30 times greater in an aqueous latex dispersion with a dithiodialkylene glycol and sodium sulfite.

摘要: A method and apparatus for fabricating a plasma display panel with increased efficiency and productivity is provided. A glass panel assembly P1 constructed from two glass plates W1, W2, which are joined together by a jig 10 with a sealant S applied along a periphery of one or the other of the opposing surfaces of the two glass plates W1, W2, is supported on an evacuating cart 20 in such a manner as to be positioned inside a furnace 1. The exhaust pipe Pa provided in any one of the glass plates W1, W2 is connected switchably between an evacuating system 25 and a discharge gas supply system 26. After evacuating the interior of the glass panel P2, a discharge gas is filled into the glass panel P2 and finally the exhaust pipe Pa is sealed and cut.

摘要: A thin film composed of a silane-based compound comprising an alkyl group or a fluoroalkyl group is bonded to the surface of an electrically insulating substrate through a covalent bond, thus obtaining an electrically chargeable substrate maintaining a charged state for a long time regardless of relative humidity of an atmosphere. A glass plate for placing a sheet in an overhead projector is dipped into a solution comprising CF3(CF)7(CH2)2SiCl3. As a result, a molecular composed of CF3(CF2)7(CH2)2Si(O)3—is chemically bonded to the glass surface. A high charged state, a water-repelling property having a static contact angle of pure water on the thin film formed on the glass surface of 110 degrees and a volume electric resistivity in the range of 1×1011−1×1019&OHgr;·cm are provided.

摘要: The invention relates to a nanostructured BaTiO3 film, plate or array that has from 1,000 to 10,000 times the storage capacity of conventional capacitors. The barium titanates are of the formula BaaTibOc wherein a and b are independently between 0.75 and 1.25 and c is 2.5 to about 5.0. The barium titanates may further be doped with a material, “M”, selected from Au, is Au, Cu, Ni3Al, Ru or InSn. The resulting titanate may be represented by the formula MdBaaTibOc wherein d is about 0.01 to 0.25, a is about 0.75 to about 1.25, b is about 0.75 to about 1.25 and c is about 2.5 to about 5.0. X-ray diffraction results illustrate that the crystal structure of the thin films changed from predominantly cubic to tetragonal phase and crystallite size increased with increasing concentration of “M”.

摘要: An armor coating (3) is provided on a surface of a metal engine component (1) that is adapted to be in grazing contact with an abradable bedding-in seal lining provided on a second engine component. The armor coating (3) includes a ceramic layer (6) and has a profiled surface contour including peaks (4, 7, 9, 10) and depressions or grooves (5) therebetween. The grooves (5) serve to receive and carry away abrasion material that is abraded from the bedding-in lining. The profiled surface contour is formed in the surface (2) of the engine component (1) by cold deformation without material removal, and thereafter the ceramic layer (6) is applied thereon preferably by thermal spraying, such that the layer (6) follows and also embodies the profiled surface contour. The cold deformation is carried out by pressing a knurling tool (11) into the original un-profiled surface (2) of the component (1).

摘要: Glass/nanoparticle composites are provided which include a glass matrix with a high density of heterologous nanoparticles embedded therein adjacent the outer surfaces of the composite. Preferably, the glass matrix is formed of porous glass and the nanoparticles are yttrium-iron nanocrystals which exhibit the property of altering the polarization of incident electromagnetic radiation; the composites are thus suitable for use in electrooptical recording media. In practice, a glass matrix having suitable porosity is contacted with a colloidal dispersion containing amorphous yttrium-iron nanoparticles in order to embed the nanoparticles within the surface pores of the matrix. The treated glass matrix is then heated under time-temperature conditions to convert the amorphous nanoparticles into a crystalline state while also fusing the glass matrix pores. Nanoparticle loadings on the order of 109 nanoparticles/mm2 of glass surface area are possible, allowing construction of recording media having a recordable data density many times greater than conventional media.
