Foamed gypsum is produced by mixing gypsum with water in the presence of additives serving for liquefying the gypsum and for adjusting the starting period, and by adding thereto a mixture of isocyanate compounds and polyurethane preadducts.After a starting period of about five minutes a foaming process occurs, which is completed after about 20 minutes and furnishes a foamed gypsum after setting. The foamed gypsum has a density from 0.45 to 0.8 g/cc, whereas unfoamed gypsum has a density of 1.66 g/cc.The process may be performed in special molds, so that after setting specially formed elements are obtained, e.g. sandwich elements.

The instant invention relates to a novel water resistant orthopedic bandage which includes a hardenable plaster of Paris composition, including a reactive silicone polymer supported on a flexible carrier. The amount of plaster of Paris may range from 100 to 600 grams per square yard of carrier, preferably from 396 to 425. The amount of reactive silicone may range from 0.5 to 20 parts per hundred parts plaster of Paris, preferably from 0.5 to 10, e.g. about 4 parts silicone per 100 parts plaster of Paris. The novel orthopedic bandages of the instant invention show improved water resistance throughout the curing cycle of the bandage. Also, when compared to the prior art plaster of Paris bandages the instant bandages have improved "green strength".

The invention relates to an improved accelerator for gypsum board manufacture, the accelerator containing a ground mixture of gypsum and a long chain fatty carboxylic acid, e.g. stearic acid, or a salt thereof, to the manufacture of the accelerator, and to its use in gypsum board production. The accelerator is less liable to deterioration on storage than conventional gypsum accelerators, and its use yields gypsum board of improved properties.

Disclosed is a soil stabilizing agent consisting of a source of calcium, such as calcium carbonate, and a spent sulfuric acid, in a water solution and a method for applying the same. Certain chloride and sulfate materials, such as aluminum and ferric chloride and aluminum and ferrous sulfate, may be added to the soil with the stabilizing agent to provide enhanced results in particular soils. The stabilizing agent is applied with sufficient water to thoroughly wet the soil and thus disperse the agent through the soil and the treated soil is then worked to accomplish thorough mixing. An alternate method of application is also disclosed in which the calcium source material, and the chloride or sulfate materials if used, are applied dry in powdered or granular form to the soil surface, the soil and materials are treated with a solution of water and a spent sulfuric acid sufficient to thoroughly wet the soil to the desired depth of treatment and disperse the chemicals therein, and the chemicals and soil are then worked until thorough mixing is assured.

A gypsum set accelerator for use in the production of gypsum wallboard comprises a tube or ball milled mixture of gypsum and up to 20 percent by weight of the gypsum of a synthetic water-soluble solid surfactant. A process for the manufacture of gypsum wallboard is also described comprising spreading between paper sheets an aqueous slurry of calcium sulphate hemihydrate defined above at a rate of between 0.5 and 15 kilograms per 100 square meters (1 and 30 pounds per 1000 square feet) of gypsum wallboard, and allowing the slurry to set. The accelerator has high potency and appears to provide wallboard of increased compressive strength.
