Abstract: A system for overcooling a drive motor and a method for controlling the same may include a first cooling loop in which a first coolant circulate, the first coolant being in a heat exchange with a power electronics (PE) part and a drive motor cooler mounted in the first cooling line and configured to cool cooling oil supplied to the drive motor fluidically connected to the drive motor cooler; a second cooling loop disposed independently from the first cooling loop, wherein a second coolant circulates in the second cooling loop, the second coolant being in a heat exchange with a battery module and a battery chiller mounted in the second cooling loop; and a switch unit configured to selectively shift a flow path of the second coolant such that the second coolant is in a heat exchange with the drive motor cooler.

Abstract: A coreless rotating electrical machine for being operated continuously comprises a stator including an energizable coreless cylindrical coil and a lid-type mount; and a rotor including a cup-type mount. The lid-type mount is equipped with a channel for supplying a refrigerant liquid to the air gap. The coreless rotating electrical machine is operated continuously by supplying the refrigerant liquid into the air gap, allowing the cylindrical coil, which generates heat, to vaporize the refrigerant liquid, cooling the cylindrical coil by latent heat of vaporization, and repeating an operation of supplying the refrigerant liquid to prevent a temperature of the cylindrical coil exceeding an allowable maximum temperature, and an operation of adjusting the supply of the refrigerant liquid to prevent the temperature of the cylindrical coil falling below a minimum temperature, so as to maintain the temperature in a range between the allowable maximum and minimum temperatures.

Abstract: The disclosed apparatus, system, and techniques described herein allow pole retention hardware of the electric motor to also function as a cooling manifold for removing heat generated by the electrical coils. A pole retainer apparatus can include a pole retainer for retaining a pole to a hub. The pole retainer can include a proximal end mounted on the hub and a distal end. The pole retainer can include a channel extending through the pole retainer from the proximal end of the pole retainer mounted on the hub to the distal end of the pole retainer. The apparatus can include a mount located at the distal end of the pole retainer and configured to retain the pole on the hub. The apparatus can include a fluid transfer duct connected to the mount. The cooling system can be employed on TORUS Axial Flux Permanent Magnet motors, and various other motor designs.

The electronic device and the two-phase dielectric material are contained in the hermetic enclosure formed by the wall of the stator and the covers coupled with stator, and the two-phase dielectric material is in contact with the wall of the stator and the electronic device to cool the stator and the electronic device by transitioning between a liquid phase and a gaseous phase, conduction, and convection.

Abstract: A method for cooling a hybrid electric aircraft propulsion system comprises transporting a coolant through a two-phase pumped loop (TPPL) in thermal contact with an electrical machine and a plurality of power modules to be cooled, where the TPPL includes: a parallel arrangement of cold plates; an evaporator; a condenser; a first control valve; a liquid receiver; and a pump. A sensor positioned upstream of the cold plates, and in some cases upstream of the liquid receiver, measures pressure and/or temperature of a return stream of the coolant and transmits measurement data to a first controller electrically connected to the first control valve. The first controller regulates flow of a first liquid stream through the first control valve based on the pressure and/or temperature measured by the sensor, thereby keeping the return stream at a temperature within a predetermined temperature range.
