摘要： Systems and methods for alerting users of personal electronic devices are provided. In a first aspect of the invention, these systems and methods alert a user to the occurrence of an event in one or more of the devices by receiving a wireless transmission from the device(s) and then by providing an acoustic, optical, electrical, or mechanical stimulus to the user. In a second aspect of the invention, these systems and methods may also provide a quiet mode control mechanism through which personal electronic devices are automatically put into a low volume or silent alert operation mode so as not to disturb persons in the vicinity of the devices. This control mechanism may use a wireless transmitter to transmit a signal to any personal electronic device within a given area.

A subscriber of the musical information service provides the service provider with an interest profile detailing the subscriber's musical interests. The service provider compiles information regarding musical events, compares the compiled information to the profile, and transmits information matching the profile to the subscriber's pager. In a two-way paging system, the information may not be transmitted until a request is sent to the system. The system may also determine the pager's general location and provide information relevant to that locale.

摘要： If a received signal includes a message signal following the address of the pager concerned, a decoder section decodes the message signal and a control section stores it in a memory section together with a reception time. At this time, the control section judges whether the message signal includes a sender identification code or a consecutive transmission code. If either code exists, the control section stores it in the memory section together with the message. The control section reads message data from the memory section, and a display control section controls a display section to display the message. If the message includes a sender identification code or a continuous transmission code, the control section searches for messages to be displayed together with the current message from among the other messages stored in the memory section, and the display control section controls the display section to display the found messages en bloc.

摘要： A pager transceiver and method for selectively paging provides a page to a paging transceiver but does not automatically provide associated information. The paging transceiver receives the page and alerts the user that information is waiting and preferably provides a short description of the information. The user can then download or otherwise act on the information at a time and at a place convenient to the user. The user can therefore place the paging transceiver in a location where it can easily receive and reply to the message. The paging system conserves air time and the paging transceiver conserves memory by not automatically receiving the associated messages. The messages stored by the systems and delivered to the paging transceiver may be of different types, such as voice, text, audio, or even video. In addition to messages, the paging system can store other information for the user, such as songs or video clips that the user can sample or updates on weather or stock rates. The paging transceiver includes a timer so that the desired action taken on the information may be performed at a desired time. The timer may be set so that the action may occur at a certain time, for instance at an off-peak hour to lower costs to the user. The timer may be programmed by the user so that messages are delivered after a certain time delay or at any other desired time.

摘要： An interactive pager docking system includes a docking cradle which is powered by a rechargeable battery, and includes a battery charger module which monitors the status of the battery and recharges it if necessary. It also includes a plurality of external serial ports and a serial port multiplexer, so that a number of different external peripheral devices may be connected to it. A GPS receiver communicates with the pager, so that an automatic vehicle location system may be operated employing the pager. A satellite transceiver may be connected to the docking cradle, together with an external printer, bar code scanner, and/or alarm annunciator. The docking cradle is adapted to be powered by a vehicle battery, but turns off the GPS receiver after a predetermined period of time so as not to run down the vehicle battery if the pager is not in place in the docking cradle.
