摘要： A wireless communication system (100) employs a method and apparatus for providing information to multiple communication units (121-129). The communication system includes a communication infrastructure (101, 102, 103, 105, 111-113, 120), a data network (107) and an information source (109). The multiple communication units each subscribe to an information service provided by the information source. The communication infrastructure creates a subscription group that includes the multiple communication units. The infrastructure receives subscriber information including at least one information unit from the information source and sets up a point-to-multipoint group call with the subscription group. The infrastructure then transmits the subscriber information to the multiple communication units. Any information unit not confirmed by the multiple communication units is re-transmit by the infrastructure. If any information unit remains unconfirmed after the re-transmission, the infrastructure sets up a point-to-point communication session with individual communication units and re-transmits the remaining unconfirmed information unit.

摘要： A fire alarm system may comprise a control center, a wired communication pathway connected to the control center, and a relay station having a receiver and a signal evaluation circuit connected to the communication pathway. First decentralized alarm boxes may be wired to the communication pathway, and second decentralized alarm boxes may communicate with the receiver of the relay station via a wireless channel, wherein the first and second alarm boxes, in case of fire, produce an alarm signal which is transmitted to the control center via the communication pathway. A set of separate coupling modules may be disposed in the relay station and may be disconnectably connected to the signal evaluation circuit and the communication pathway via appropriate connecting elements, the coupling modules being designed for different communication modes.

In one embodiment, the system comprises a sensing device that comprises an optical receiver for receiving status information from at least one status indicator of the portable medical device. The optical receiver is positioned in sufficient proximity to the status indicator to allow optical communication between the optical receiver and the status indicator. A circuit couplable to the optical receiver communicates the status information represented by the status indicator to the remote system or user. In another embodiment, the sensing device comprises a microphone to receive audible status signals from the portable medical device. In yet another embodiment, the sensing device is mounted to a housing, which allows sensing device to sense the status information of an enclosed portable medical device.
