    摘要: A thermal warning device attaches to a wheel assembly of a railway car to detect whether the wheel assembly has reached high temperatures and may lead to a potential bearing failure. A temperature sensor for monitoring the temperature of the wheel assembly is coupled to an electronic circuit for determining whether a bearing failure may occur based on the temperatures detected by the temperature sensor. In particular, the temperature sensor adjustably extends into the wheel assembly in order to obtain accurate readings of high temperatures in wheel assembly. Also, the electronic circuit is situated away from the outer surface of the wheel assembly so that the electronic circuit will not be subjected to heat from the wheel assembly and may freely dissipate heat produced by its own components. Upon determination of a warning condition, the electronic circuit transmits a warning signal to a wayside station or train crew. Optionally, the electronic circuit may include a wireless transmitter for communication with an in-cab receiver.

The ray that is deflected when the slope of the deflecting device is changed can in this way also arrive on reflecting surfaces 10 for the purpose of autocollimation, thereby enabling an improvement in measuring precision. The apparatus transduces acoustic vibrations of the bearings into an electrical signal and extracts an envelope modulated carrier frequency component from the electric signal. The envelope is extracted from the carrier frequency component and is analyzed by a bandpass filter. The bandpass filter includes a switch capacitor filter controlled by a master clock which, in turn, is controlled by train speed and/or direction sensors positioned along the track on which the train travels.

    摘要: An improved saddle frame for a passive steering single-axle truck for a railway freight car that allows for unobstructed passage of infrared rays from the wheel bearings, so that they may be sensed by a hot-box detector mounted on a rail bed. The saddle frame has a center web section including a pair of parallel lower flanges, which flanges are cut back on the inboard sides thereof to allow for the unobstructed passage of the infrared rays. Each inboard section is of considerably reduced width as compared to the outboard sections, with compensatory thickening being provided for both inboard and outboard sections of the flanges. The inboard sides of the saddle frame's upright columns and spring arms are also cut back at a forty-five degree slope in order to ensure that the infrared rays reach the hot-box detector.
