摘要:
Miniaturized ground fault detector and current interrupter in which fault signals are stored in the form of magnetic flux in an inductor core. The core has a low input impedance and is driven by a differential transformer having a small core and a singleturn secondary winding. Means is provided for reading the stored flux signals out of the inductor core and operating a circuit breaker in response thereto. Means is also provided for counting the number of signals readout of the core and delaying the operation of the circuit breaker until a predetermined number have been counted.

A normally open relay and a normally closed relay responsive to fault currents in an electrical distribution system control the opening of a disconnect switch incapable of interrupting large fault currents. The contacts of the relays are connected in series in an energizing circuit for an electroresponsive operator of the disconnect switch. Upon occurrence of a small fault, such as a ground fault, the contact of the normally open relay closes after a short time delay to effect opening of the disconnect switch. Upon occurrence of a large fault, the contact of the normally open relay also closes as for a small fault, but the contact of the normally closed relay opens instantaneously to prevent opening of the disconnect switch.

A temporary power delivery system includes a power source, a booth stringer, and a portable GFCI device. The GFCI device is receives current from the power source by a first terminal and delivers current to the booth stringer by a second terminal. An electronic processor of the GFCI device compares a combined magnitude of current flowing through first and second phase conductors of the GFCI device to a magnitude of current flowing through a neutral conductor of the GFCI. The electronic processor also compares a first voltage between the first phase conductor and neutral conductor to a second voltage between the second phase conductor and neutral conductor. A circuit breaker of the GFCI device is opened if a difference between the combined magnitude of phase conductor current and neutral conductor current exceeds a first threshold or a difference between the first voltage and second voltage exceeds a second threshold.

A conventional ground fault interrupter in an arrangement with a frequency converter and electrical machines may be accidentally tripped due to operation-related leakage currents. This can be prevented by operating a ground fault interrupter for a frequency converter receiving a mains current in the following manner: receiving switching information about switching operations in the frequency converter, measuring a signal associated with a common mode current in a power line device which conducts the mains current to the frequency converter, determining, based on the switching information, an expected signal expected for the common mode current produced by the switching operations, identifying, based on the measured signal and the expected signal, a fault current, and interrupting the mains power depending on the identified fault current. A ground fault interrupter is hereby provided with an evaluation unit configured to carry out the method.

The aircraft applicable current imbalance detection and circuit interrupter interrupts an electrical circuit when a current imbalance is sensed. The current imbalance detection and circuit interrupter includes a housing, power supplies, a sensor system for sensing a current imbalance at the line side of the electrical circuit, a logic controller and a power controller including a power relay having contacts capable of surviving carry-break and make-carry-break types of ground fault conditions at anticipated current levels. At power up, the device performs a test to confirm that none of the relay contacts have failed in a closed position, and to check whether a switching FET which controls the relay coil has shorted.

A method of detecting faults on a power transmission line system includes simultaneously measuring phase current samples at each phase of each transmission terminal; calculating real and imaginary phaselets comprising partial sums of the phase current samples; for each phaselet, calculating a respective partial sum of squares of each phase current sample; calculating the sums of the real and imaginary phaselets over a variable size sliding sample window; calculating real and imaginary phasor components from the phaselets and a sum of the partial sums of the squares over the sample window; using the sums of the real and imaginary phaselets, the real and imaginary phasor components, and the sum of the partial sums of the squares to calculate a sum of squares of errors between the phase current samples and a fitted sine wave representative of the real and imaginary phasor components; using the sum of squares of errors to calculate a variance matrix defining an elliptical uncertainty region; determining whether a disturbance has occurred, and, if so, re-initializing the sample window; and determining whether a sum of current phasors from each terminal for a respective phase falls outside of the elliptical uncertainty region for the respective phase.

A ground fault protection circuit for plural loads connected across a power source with plural branches which can be used where the loads are unbalanced. Each branch includes a ground fault circuit interrupter device that has a common line for the electronics of the GFCI separate from the neutral line from the power source to the load where the common lines for the electronics for the ground circuit interrupter devices in each branch are connected to a common point. The ground fault protection circuit employs plural ground fault circuit interrupter devices and eliminates nuisance tripping. The common line for the electronics for a GFCI is routed through the core of the current sensing transformer of the GFCI. The separate neutral line for the electronics, connecting the common lines for the electronics for plural GFCI devices and routing the common lines for the GFCI electronics through the core of the transformer of each GFCI, eliminate improper GFCI operation due to unbalanced loading. The ground fault protection circuit may be used for a three phase power source.

A ground-fault circuit interrupter is provided with an additional current-sensing element that responds to a net value of current through the power wires in an ac circuit. The winding may be wound on a ferromagnetic core of its own or it may be placed as a separate winding on a core that is used to sense imbalance in a GFCI. In the latter case the extra winding must be insulated electrically from the main sense winding. The additional coil is connected to a rectifying diode and a capacitor, so that an imbalance of current in the power wires charges the capacitor. The voltage thus developed across the capacitor is used to operate the tripping mechanism of the ground-fault circuit interrupter. The fault-powered signal thus attained in the added winding will enable the GFCI to operate despite the existence of heavy fault currents that reduce the operating voltage to the rest of the GFCI to a level that would otherwise prevent its operation.
