Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A device may receive a directional positioning reference signal over one or more beams from another device. The device may transmit a broadcast positioning reference signal in response to receipt of the directional positioning reference signal. The device may receive, from the other device, a report including timing and directionality associated with transmission of the directional positioning reference signal. The report may also include timing and directionality associated with receipt of the broadcast positioning reference signal at the other device. Responsive to receipt of the report, the device may transmit beam specific measurement information associated with the one or more beams to the other device. The device may communicate with the other device using a beam of the one or more beams based at least on the report and the beam specific measurement information.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first user equipment (UE) may establish a unicast connection over a sidelink communications with a second UE. To establish the unicast connection over the sidelink, the first UE may transmit a request message (e.g., a first message) to the second UE, and the second UE may transmit a response message (e.g., a second message) to the first UE accepting the request. The unicast connection over the sidelink may then be established between the first UE and the second UE, and user data may then be transmitted over the sidelink on the established unicast connection. Additionally, the first UE may transmit a connection complete message (e.g., a third message) to the second UE indicating that the unicast connection has been established. The request message, the response message, and the connection complete message may be radio resource control (RRC) messages.

A communication device supports sidelink communications, including device-to-device (D2D) communications and vehicle-based communications. The communication device receives, from another device, a discontinuous transmission (DTX) configuration for a sidelink connection between the communications device and the other device. Based on the received DTX configuration, the communications device determines a discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration and transmit, to the other device, the determined DRX configuration. The devices experience power savings, among other results according to the DTX configuration or the DRX configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. In some systems, two devices may communicate over a sidelink and support a mutually understood transport block (TB) size (TBS) determination procedure associated with a data channel including a control message. A first device may encode and transmit information on the data channel, including the control message and a data message. A second device may receive and decode the information on the data channel. The first device and the second device may determine a TBS for encoding and decoding the data channel, respectively, based on determining an estimated resource element (RE) overhead for the control message and determining an approximate TBS based on the estimated RE overhead.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for sidelink wireless communications are described in which a transmitting device may determine a transport block size (TBS) for a sidelink data channel transmission and provide an indication in in sidelink control information (SCI) to allow a receiving device to determine the TBS to be used for decoding the sidelink communication. The indication provided in the SCI may be an explicit indication in an information element that indicates whether feedback channel resources are included or excluded when determining a number of symbols for use in a TBS determination. The indication provided in the SCI may also be an implicit indication based on one or more values of one or more parameters provided in the SCI. The sidelink communications devices may determine a same TBS across multiple instances of a sidelink data channel transmission that may be transmitted using slots having different slot formats.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE), may receive, at a processing layer of the UE, sets of discontinuous reception (DRX) cycle parameters from a corresponding set of applications at an application layer of the UE. The UE may determine, based on the sets of DRX parameters, a common DRX cycle to satisfy each of the sets of applications. The UE may transmit the common DRX cycle to one or more layers in the user plane protocol stack of the UE. A base station may also receive a request, from the UE, for a set of DRX cycle parameters that satisfies the common DRX cycle of the UE. The base station may transmit an indication of the set of DRX parameters, and receive, from the UE, a confirmation of a DRX cycle associated with the set of DRX cycle parameters.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may transmit concurrent messages over a sidelink channel to another UE and over an uplink channel to a base station. The UE may transmit, to a base station, a report indicating a capability of the UE to concurrently transmit over a sidelink channel and an uplink channel. The UE may receive, from the base station and based on the report, a transmission configuration scheduling a concurrent sidelink and uplink transmission within a resource shared by the sidelink channel and the uplink channel. The UE may then transmit the concurrent sidelink and uplink transmission within the resource shared by the sidelink channel and the uplink channel based on the transmission configuration. The other UE and the base station may receive the concurrent sidelink and uplink transmission and may decode different layers of the transmission.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The described techniques relate to the categorization of resources in a system to enable a user equipment (UE) to determine whether resources may be reclaimed. At least two categories may be defined for the resources, and the UE may use various criteria for categorizing the resources in a system. For example, the UE may include a first set of resources in an “available” category and a second set of resources in an “occupied” category. Resources in the “occupied” category may be indicated as occupied by another UE's sidelink channel information. In cases where resources are indicated as reserved for retransmission by another UE, but no feedback is detected, then the UE may use additional parameters to determine whether those resources may be reclaimed for its own transmission and may categorize the resources accordingly.

Additionally, the first UE may transmit to a second UE, an indication of the first TDD configuration. The first and the second UEs may communicate a sidelink communication based on the first TDD configuration. Other features are also claimed and described.
