Abstract:
An apparatus for filtering liquids, such as fiber suspensions or polluted water, includes a hollow rotating filter body adapted to receive the liquid to be filtered within the body. A plurality of guide members are attached to the filter body and distributed around the latter to receive cloudy filtrate penetrating the filter body at the descending side. A basin is arranged at the descending side of the filter body to collect cloudy filtrate poured from the guide members. As a result, the cloudy filtrate is prevented from mixing with the clear filtrate.
Abstract:
A machine tool coolant filtering system (10) is disclosed as including a plurality of coolant filter tanks (12). Also a method is disclosed which includes identifying particular contaminants in tool coolant and selectively directing the tool coolant to a particular filter tank (12) designated to filter out that contaminant from the tool coolant. A fluid control communication system (22) controls the communication of coolant from the machine tools to the coolant filter tanks (12). A liquid level sensor (40) senses coolant level within a respective tank (12). A modulating valve (46) in communication with the liquid level (40) senses the liquid level in the respective tank (12). If the coolant level in its respective tank (12) falls below a threshold range, the respective modulating valve (46) is closed to restrict coolant from being removed from its respective tank (12) to maintain the coolant level in the respective tank. If the coolant level in the respective tank (12) rises above the threshold range, the respective modulating valve (46) is opened to allow removal of coolant, to maintain the coolant level within the threshold range in each coolant filter tank (12). The system is operated so as segregate different material contaminants produced by one or more machine tools.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a separating apparatus for separating a mixture of materials of different flowability for preparing foodstuffs. The apparatus includes a hollow drum having a perforated circumferential surface around a portion of which is wrapped an endless presser belt forming a compression zone for the material to be processed. The belt is pressed against the drum by a presser roller having a hub body around which a tubular cylindrical body forms the roller surface. The cylindrical body is supported in its middle portion by spherical supporting element mounted on the hub body. Thus when the belt is subjected to non-uniform stresses due to the uneven consistency of fed material which in turn causes the deformation and unparallel rotation of the drum and the presser roller, the cylindrical body automatically adjusts its position on said spherical supporting element to restore parallel motion.
Abstract:
A scroll and screen centrifuge especially suited for processing abrasive materials in which the surfaces of the screw flights on the scroll members contain recessed abrasion resistant shields. The abrasion resistant shields have an upper exposed surface flush with the front surfaces of the screw flights. The scroll members also have feed openings designed for material flow which further reduces the abrasion of the scroll member.
Abstract:
A self-cleaning filter includes two cleaning blades spaced from about 75.degree. to about 115.degree. about the circumference of a rotatable tubular filter screen. The tubular filter screen is rotated relative to the two cleaning blades whereby particles in the slurry being filtered having a size less than a predetermined size are forced through the tubular filter screen and particles having a size not less than the predetermined size are removed from the exterior surface of the filter screen and then removed from the filter. The self-cleaning filter is particularly suited for filtering slurries in which solid particles tend to agglomerate.
Abstract:
A disc filter including at least one filter disc (3) partly submerged in a vessel (1) for liquid or suspension to be filtered, said filter disc including a plurality of substantially annularly disposed filter sectors (4) and being rotatable about a collecting through (6) for solid substance deposited on the outside of the filter sectors (4) and falling down therefrom. Each filter sector has a filtrate outlet (16) by means of which the interior of the filter sector communicates with an axial channel (8) for discharge of filtrate. The filtrate outlet (16) is arranged at the edge (22) of the filter sector (4) trailing upon rotation of the filter disc and being connected to the side (12) of the axial channel (8) leading in the direction of rotation. Hereby the filter sectors (4) may be arranged to extend radially outside as well as radially inside the axial channels (8).
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for using a horizontal, continuous process auger centrifuge to separate the granulated material of a container from whatever liquid residue remains within the container. Though this technology is suitable for many diverse applications, a primary objective is the continuous separation of the recyclable plastic of a motor oil container from the remaining reusable motor oil within the container after the container has ostensibly been emptied. It is an objective of the method to accomplish this separation in an economically advantageous manner which uses neither a solvent nor a wash process, and which reclaims the oil in a suitable state for reprocessing. In a second method, a rinsing mechanism is employed by which a residual liquid waste, such as soap, may be concentrated and separated in a first rinse stage without introducing the residual liquid waste in dilute form into the waste water treatment process.
Abstract:
A liquid filter comprises a cloth filter media in the form of a drum. Contaminated liquid flows into the interior of the drum thence radially outwardly through the cloth filter media as the filter rotates. Sludge is constantly backwashed from the filter media by pressurized liquid in the reverse direction of filtration. Flexibility of the cloth filter media materially enhances backwashing efficiency. Sludge is collected by a collector internally of the drum.
Abstract:
This invention increases the efficiency and flow rate of rotary drum filtration and makes possible the use of such filtration for volatile and high temperature materials. According to the invention a rotary drum filter unit operates continuously in a pressure vessel and solids are intermittently discharged from the vessel. The filtered solids are scraped from the drum periphery and dropped into a trough in the vessel communicating with a discharge passageway. When the passageway is filled with solids, a shroud, driven by a reciprocating ejector traps the solids in the passageway. The ejector compacts the trapped solids forming plugs which are sequentially discharged from the pressure vessel. The filter unit is fixed to a removable end head for the pressure vessel which has a wheeled carriage riding in the vessel and the vessel in turn is carried on wheels so that when the end head is released from the vessel, the filter unit can be exposed for service such as the replacement of filter screens and cloths on the drum.
Abstract:
Apparatus is provided for dewatering an aqueous clay suspension by a process which includes preparing a partly dewatered filter cake and concurrently compressing the partly dewatered filter cake on a filtration drum while applying vacuum suction to it from inside the drum, and then removing the dewatered cake from the filter. The process also purifies the filter cake. An apparatus suitable for carrying out the process comprises a rotary vacuum filter, means for compressing the clay filter cake on the filter medium and means for applying vacuum filtration to the same portion of the cake being compressed. The compression means may comprise a rotatable roll mounted for rolling compressive contact with the filter cake. The rotatable roll may have a non-stick bearing surface to which solids of the filter cake are substantially non-adherent. The rotatable roll may be a pneumatic roll designed to conform to the filter drum and increase the size of the contact zone between the filter drum and the compression roll.
