Abstract:
In an electrical switching device which includes insulating parts subjected to the influence of electric arcs, the insulating parts are formed of mouldings having a binder which consists essentially of a mixture of a linear acrylate polymer and a monomeric acrylate compound which is polyethylene glycol dimethacrylate or a polyethylene glycol diacrylate converted into polymerized form. The binder may contain an additive resin containing ethylenically unsaturated groups in the monomeric acrylate compound in a quantity of at most 25 percent of the total weight of linear acrylate polymer, monomeric acrylate and additive resin. The binder may also contain a powdered filler or a fibrous reinforcing material.
Abstract:
An arrangement for atomizing molten metallic material includes a furnace for tapping into a container and a cooling section. The furnace and container (crucible or ladle) are enclosed in a tank wherein they can be subjected to vacuum. The container is raisable and lowerable with respect to the cooling section, so that a closure valve can be inserted between them when suction is being applied. In the lowered position the container rests on a connecting member which contains nozzles for gas directed against the stream flowing from the container to disintegrate the stream into particles.
Abstract:
In order to determine the thickness of a web of paper which is being wound on rolls, the temperature profile in the web is measured transversely as the web is rolled up to indicate the thickness. A second temperature profile is also measured at a point located ahead of the roll and a moisture profile is also registered ahead of the roll. Some of these signals or their combinations are used to control the mechanism.
Abstract:
In manufacturing a rod or wire of compound material from a core of aluminum or aluminum alloy and a casing of copper or copper alloy by hydrostatic extrusion, a billet is used in which the core has a smaller external diameter than the internal diameter of the casing, so as to provide clearance therebetween sufficient that at least most damage to the casing during soft-annealing and handling will not be of sufficient extent to prevent the insertion of the core into a casing. An internal space is provided at the rear of the billet to collect the air present in the gap between the core and the casing as it is displaced when the core and casing are pressed into contact with each other.
Abstract:
A coil positioned in the slot of a stator or rotor in an electric machine is formed of a bundle of conductors arranged close together and insulated from each other and from the slot. The conductor insulation consists of a layer of polymer and a tape of corona resistant insulating material running longitudinally of the conductor is adhered to the polymer layer. The tape surrounds the parts of the conductor facing the main insulation which surrounds the bundle of conductors and furthermore overlies at least those parts of the sides of the conductors which face the adjacent conductors which parts are situated nearest the sides facing the main insulation.

The tape is formed of a linear unbranched or branched polymer having such thermal stability that the dielectric strength of a film of the polymer 50 microns in thickness, after ageing in air at 155*C for 25,000 hours, is at least 50 percent of the dielectric strength before the ageing and of mica in the form of small flakes.
Abstract:
For calculating and indicating the commutation time for a pair of commutating rectifiers in a static converter, the load current value of the converter at the start of the commutation is stored in an integrating memory circuit. The commutation voltage is connected to the input of the memory circuit at the start of the commutation. The integrated value of the commutation voltage is continuously subtracted during the commutation from the stored current value. The difference between the current values is continuously supervised, and a signal indicating the end of the commutation is emitted when such difference is indicated to have a predetermined value, which may be zero or the current value in question.
Abstract:
In manufacturing blades for gas turbines with a plurality of inner cooling channels by isostatic compression, a sintering capsule of deformable material is provided with thin-walled tubes arranged substantially parallel to the capsule wall parts corresponding to the high and low pressure surfaces of the blade. A powdered material is poured into the capsule, which is then evacuated, sealed and heated to at least 800*C. Thereafter the heated capsule is subjected to an external gas pressure of at least 500 bars. Simultaneously with the compression, the tubes are subjected to such a high internal gas pressure that the linear decrease in the tube cross-section is at most 50 percent.
Abstract:
For winding a coil winding having a non-circular cross-section of the body, a gear drive arrangement is used composed of noncircular toothed wheels in engagement with each other, for driving the bobbin or a rotating wire holder turning around a stationary bobbin to produce a substantially constant speed of the wire wound on the bobbin.
Abstract:
For producing rods having longitudinally or helically extending projections or ribs by hydrostatic extrusion, the billet is extruded through a die having grooves, with the bases of the grooves inclined towards the longitudinal axis of the die so as to cause the material being extruded to fill the grooves of the die completely.
