Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described for one or more aspects of dynamically configuring an analog-to-digital converter (ADC). A user equipment (UE) may determine a set of supported ADC resolution sizes including one or more dynamically configurable bit quantities. The UE may transmit a capability message including an indication of the set of ADC resolution sizes to a base station. The UE may indicate, to the base station, a power consumption factor or a table of signal-to-quantization noise ratios (SQNR) per bit quantity supported by the UE's ADC. In some cases, the base station may enable, based on the set of ADC resolution sizes, clipping of a power amplifier and one or more associated precoding parameters, and may indicate the precoding parameters to the UE. The UE may select an ADC resolution size for processing received messages.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Beam management procedures may increase communications quality and reliability in wireless networks that support narrow directional beams and high frequencies. Some such beam management procedures utilize continuous beam measurements and adaptive beam switching to maintain a threshold link level between devices. A user equipment (UE) may transmit an indication of a capability to perform a first beam refinement procedure in response to a data transmission and using multiple receive beams. The UE may select a communication beam using a first instance of a second beam refinement procedure, and may receive a data transmission from a base station using the selected beam. Based on receiving the data transmission, the UE may perform the first beam refinement procedure and may skip a second instance of the second beam refinement procedure.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described to support scheduling aperiodic random access occasion resources. The aperiodic random access occasion resources may be dynamically scheduled by a primary secondary cell (PSCell) associated with a base station. When performing a random access procedure for the PSCell, the base station may initiate the random access procedure via an order transmitted to a user equipment (UE). The order may represent a unicast transmission addressed to the UE and may indicate for the UE to transmit a preamble to begin the random access procedure. The order may also indicate resources (e.g., an offset of time resources) and a preamble index for transmission of the preamble. The UE may receive the order and may transmit the preamble based on the information included in the order.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, the described techniques provide for using a same antenna port to transmit or receive reference signals on different beams. A network may determine different directional beams to use to transmit different data streams, and the network may transmit each data stream using a different directional beam. The network may also transmit reference signals with the different data streams using a same antenna port, and a user equipment (UE) may receive the reference signals with the different data streams using a same antenna port. Because a same antenna port may be used for transmitting or receiving reference signals with different data streams, the reference signals may occupy the same time and frequency resources, and the overhead of reference signal transmissions may be minimized.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A first wireless device may transmit, to a second wireless device, a first indication of a capability to selectively configure activation states for a set of antenna elements of an antenna array of the first wireless device, and of parameter values that indicate a structure of the antenna array. The first wireless device may then receive, from the second wireless device in response to the transmitted first indication, a second indication for the first wireless device to modify an activation state of one or more antenna elements of the set of antenna elements. The first wireless device may subsequently identify the activation state of the one or more antenna elements based on the received second indication, and communicate with the second wireless device using the antenna array according to the identified activation state of the one or more antenna elements.

Abstract: The present disclosure involves determining base station (BS) beams for communicating between a UE and the BS. The BS may use sensor data or beam management reporting history to assist with determining one or more appropriate beams. The sensor data may include camera images, radar data, or lidar data, and be used to model the cell environment served by the BS. The BS may obtain reporting data from multiple UEs over time indicating the quality of beams received by the UEs at various locations in the cell environment and model the cell environment based on the reporting data. The BS may associate beams with possible UE locations within the cell environment and use the associations to determine beams for communicating with a UE after determining the UE's location.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A transmitting device may encode a set of bits to transmit to a receiving device based on a repetition factor. The transmitting device may map, based on the repetition factor, the set of encoded bits to a subset of subcarriers such as adjacent subcarriers of a set of subcarriers. The transmitting device may generate a signal including the set of encoded bits based on the mapping, and transmit the generated signal to the receiving device. The receiving device may receive a modulated signal from the transmitting device, and identify, based on a repetition factor, a subset of subcarriers including adjacent subcarriers of a set of subcarriers associated with the modulated signal. The receiving device may average the subset of subcarriers including the adjacent subcarriers, and demodulate the modulated signal in accordance with the averaged subset of subcarriers including the adjacent subcarriers.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A receiving device and a transmitting device may utilize index modulation for full-duplex operations. The transmitting device, such as a base station or a user equipment (UE), may define blocks of resource elements (REs) for transmissions. The transmitting device may then transmit a power boosted index modulated signal at a data RE location within a resource allocation and may skip transmitting within the remaining REs of the resource allocation. The transmitting device may indicate the number of REs per RE block to the receiving device (e.g., a UE). The receiving device may use this information to perform energy detection for determining which REs within an RE block include the power boosted index modulated transmission and which REs within the RE block are empty REs. In some cases, the receiving device may use the empty REs for performing noise estimation.

Abstract: In order to enable asynchronous, autonomous reception beam switching at a UE while minimizing degradation due to a transient in link performance, a method, apparatus, and computer-readable medium for wireless communication are provided. The apparatus receives CSI-RS on different reception beams in different symbols, wherein one reception beam being a current serving reception beam, and determines whether to switch to a different reception beam based on a SPEFF metric for the different reception beam and/or a severity of a potential link transient qualified in terms of the expected CQI/MCS degradation in the channel. The apparatus may switch from a current serving reception beam to a second reception beam when a first channel quality for the current serving reception beam is within a threshold value of a second channel quality for the second reception beam, the second channel quality being measured using a current configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, a configuration indicating a set of resources for a reference signal to track an in-phase and quadrature-phase imbalance of the UE. The set of resources may include a first subset of resources for transmitting the reference signal and a second subset of resources for a mirror image signal that is generated during upconversion of the reference signal. The UE may upconvert the reference signal to a set of subcarriers corresponding to the first subset of resources and transmit the upconverted reference signal on the first subset of resources. The base station may receive the reference signal and the mirror image signal and determine a signal adjustment for communications with the UE based on the received reference signal and the received mirror image signal.
