Abstract:
New methods for aging aluminum alloys having zinc and magnesium are disclosed. The methods may include first aging the aluminum alloy at a first temperature of from about 330° F. to 530° F. and for a first aging time of from 1 minute to 6 hours, and then second aging the aluminum alloy at a second temperature for a second aging time of at least 30 minutes, with the second temperature being lower than the first temperature.
Abstract:
Molten metal is injected uniformly into a horizontal mold from a feed chamber in a horizontal or vertical direction at a controlled rate, directly on top of the metal already within the mold. A cooling medium is applied to the bottom surface of the mold, with the type and flow rate of the cooling medium being varied to produce a controlled cooling rate throughout the casting process. The rate of introduction of molten metal and the flow rate of the cooling medium are both controlled to produce a relatively uniform solidification rate within the mold, thereby producing a uniform microstructure throughout the casting, and low stresses throughout the casting. A multiple layer ingot product is also provided comprising a base alloy layer and at least a first additional alloy layer, the two layers having different alloy compositions, where the first additional alloy layer is bonded directly to the base alloy layer by applying the first additional alloy in the molten state to the surface of the base alloy while the surface temperature of the base alloy is lower than the liquidus temperature and greater than eutectic temperature of the base alloy −50 degrees Celsuis.

A lock bolt collar comprises a shank having a first end, a second end opposite the first end, a through-bore extending from the first end to the second end, an inner wall having an internal bead located proximate to the first end of the shank and extending circumferentially and inwardly into the through-bore. The bead includes a first inner diameter and an extended portion extending from the bead and to a point proximate to the second end, the extended portion including a second inner diameter, where the second inner diameter is greater than the first inner diameter.

A clip for assembling corners of hollow members such as the rails and stiles of an extruded aluminum door. The clip has an L shape and may feature a double L shape. A portion inserts into the hollow of a first member and is attached thereto. Another portion extends into the other hollow member for attachment thereto to form a sturdy joint without welding. Pairs of clips may be used at each corner.

The handle/sleeve assembly includes a handle having a bore and an inner wall defined by the bore. The handle/sleeve assembly further includes an outer sleeve having an outer wall and an inner wall, and an inner sleeve having an outer wall and an inner wall. The outer sleeve is positioned within the bore of the handle, while the inner sleeve is positioned concentrically within the outer sleeve to form an annular space between the outer wall of the inner sleeve and the inner wall of the outer sleeve. The annular space is utilized to conduct hydraulic fluid.

A fastening system including a fastener and a fastener installation tool. The fastener includes a pin member having an elongated shank portion with a threaded portion, a stop shoulder located at an end of the threaded portion, and a pull portion extending from the stop shoulder. The stop shoulder includes an inner annular wall extending longitudinally from the end of the threaded portion, and an inner face extending outwardly and obliquely from the shank portion. The inner annular wall and the inner face form an annular receiving area. The fastener installation tool includes a puller having a front face. The receiving area of the fastener is adapted to receive the front face of the fastener installation tool when the puller engages the pull portion of the pin member.

New 6xxx aluminum alloys having an improved combination of properties are disclosed. The new 6xxx aluminum alloy generally include from 0.30 to 0.53 wt. % Si, from 0.50 to 0.65 wt. % Mg wherein the ratio of wt. % Mg to wt. % Si is at least 1.0:1 (Mg:Si), from 0.05 to 0.24 wt. % Cu, from 0.05 to 0.14 wt. % Mn, from 0.05 to 0.25 wt. % Fe, up to 0.15 wt. % Ti, up to 0.15 wt. % Zn, up to 0.15 wt. % Zr, not greater than 0.04 wt. % V, and not greater than 0.04 wt. % Cr, the balance being aluminum and other elements.

An embossing method and apparatus utilizes 3D printing by digitally dispensing\ink jet printing to apply texturing features to a work roll or a sheet that may be fed into a rolling mill to emboss sheet material like aluminum alloy sheet. The printed pattern is highly variable and may be produced quickly and easily allowing low volume embossing. The printed pattern may be removed from a work roll after use to allow the roll to be reused. Alternatively, a sheet receives the printed pattern, is rolled and then the printed material removed from the resultant depression.
