Abstract:
Received signals are digitized by a comparator, and sampled by regenerated clock signals synchronized to a carrier. Biphase symbol data are demodulated based on the sampling data. A biphase decoder circuit performs subtraction of the biphase symbol data to be paired. The subtraction result is compared with threshold values by data judgment circuitry which then judges inversion of the biphase signals to be paired. An RDS-ID detector circuit detects inversion of RDS signals by detection of either continuity or a ratio of signals received for a certain length period. Alternatively, RDS signals are detected by stability of output from the pair judgment circuit to detect a combination of biphase symbols.

Abstract:
Received data is applied in units of blocks to an error correcting unit and a data holding unit. If the error correcting unit normally performs error correction, the output from the error correcting unit is stored in a frame buffer. If the error correcting unit does not normally perform error correction, the data in the data holding unit is stored in the frame buffer. In this manner the first error correction processing is performed. Bit data is sequentially read out in units of bits from each block stored in the frame buffer, subjected to the second error correction processing, and returned to the frame buffer. The third error correction processing is further performed for the data sequentially output in units of blocks from the frame buffer.
Abstract:
A radio data reception system operates within a host processing system such as a personal computer and receives FM broadcast transmissions encoded with either RDS or MBS digital data modulated upon a subcarrier frequency. The radio data reception system operates in one of three modes to interpret the RDS or MBS digital data. A first mode of operation provides a user of the radio data reception system with complete FM stereo tuner functions displayed on a monitor. The radio data reception system receives and decodes RDS data transmissions in the FM stereo tuner mode and displays the RDS data on the monitor. In second and third modes of operation, the radio data reception system receives and processes MBS digital data. In the second mode of operation, the MBS data is used by the host processing system to monitor pages received by a user of the system. MBS digital data received in the third mode of operation can be compiled and stored into large binary files within the host processing system for later retrieval by a user.
Abstract:
Pager data is transmitted at different subcarrier frequencies on different FM broadcast channels. The subcarrier frequency of the pager data is selected to avoid conflicts with signals transmitted from other systems. The pager receiver decodes data at any one of the multiple subcarrier frequencies according to the active subcarrier used on the currently tuned broadcast channel. In one embodiment, the subcarrier frequency of the pager data is contained in control packets of a time division multiplexed data frame. The receiver decodes the control packets to determine which broadcast frequencies and associated subcarrier frequencies contain potential pager signals. The receiver accordingly searches the identified broadcast frequency and automatically reconfigures a circuit demodulator to decode data packets at the identified subcarrier frequencies.
