    Abstract: Methods and systems are described for learning which content segments may be complex and providing enhanced content with playback of those complex segments. A complexity engine accesses content, the content includes a plurality of ordered segments and each of the plurality of segments associated with a complexity score. The complexity engine provides each of the plurality of ordered segments of the content for consumption. After receiving input that identifies a first segment of the plurality of segments as complex, the complexity engine calculates a comprehension threshold based on the complexity score associated with the first segment. While further providing content segments, the complexity engine identifies a subsequent segment where the complexity score is greater than or equal to the comprehension threshold. The complexity engine provides corresponding enhanced content with the subsequent segment.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed herein for varied audio segment compression for accelerated playback of media assets. A priority weight for each of the various audio segments is then determined. Each audio segment for use during accelerated playback is based on the priority weight of that audio segment, the received playback time period, and a duration of that audio segment. A sum of the modified time for each audio segment equals the received playback time period. An accelerated playback speed for each audio segment is determined based on the modified time for that audio segment and the duration of that audio segment. The technique generates for playback the video segment based on a determined video playback speed and the audio segments based on the accelerated playback speed for each audio segment.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for identifying camera angles, based on network parameters, for content available at multiple camera angles. The system determines a network parameter of a network used to provide content that is recorded or rendered at various camera angles. The determined network parameters are used to identify camera angles that are supported by the network. For example, the video data associated with a camera angle having a prerequisite bit rate of 5 Megabits per second is supported by a network having a bandwidth parameter of 40 Mbps, while another camera angle having a prerequisite bit rate of 45 Megabits per second is not supported by the bandwidth parameter of 40 Mbps. The system provides the video data for identified camera angles supported by the network to a device for display.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for providing content during reduced streaming quality. Data streaming is susceptible to degradation in quality that adversely affects the delivery of content. For example, sufficient reduction in streaming quality can cause video and audio portions of a data stream to become unsynchronized. The system compares currently streamed video frames to previously received video frames to identify suitable replacement video frames for the currently streamed video frames in the event that the currently streamed video frames are affected by the sufficiently reduced streaming quality.

    Abstract: Systems and methods for addressing a corrupted segment in a media asset. The media guidance application determines that a segment of a media asset is corrupted. The media guidance application determines whether a retrieval period to retrieve an uncorrupted copy of the segment exceeds a threshold period. If the retrieval period does not exceed the threshold period, the media guidance application retrieves and generates for display the uncorrupted copy of the segment. If the retrieval period exceeds the threshold period, the media guidance application determines whether an importance level of the corrupted segment exceeds a threshold level. If the importance level exceeds the threshold level, the media guidance application generates for display a summary for the corrupted segment. If the importance level does not exceed the threshold level, the media guidance application generates for display the subsequent segment and the summary for the corrupted segment in an overlay.

    Abstract: The system generates a marker indicating a time interval sufficient to display condensed content. In response to identifying a program, the system retrieves information about the program. Based on this information, and optionally information about the user, the system selects a subset of segments of the program, forming a shorter version of the content having a reduced playback time. The system stores marker information corresponding to the reduced playback time, generates a marker for display, or both. The system may generate a grid of content identifiers for display, and also generate one or more makers for display to indicate the time required to display condensed content. One or more versions of condensed content may be generated, each having an associated marker. The system may store marker information for a plurality of programs, in response to user input or prior to a scheduled display time.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for selection of tagged images to populate the graphical layout. The system accesses a layout that defines a plurality of portions of the graphical layout and corresponding image parameters for each portion of the graphical layout. The system selects a first portion of the plurality of portions and retrieves the corresponding image parameters. If the image parameters indicate that the selected portion of the graphical layout is subject to a visual effect, the system selects an image having image parameters, such as the tags described above, indicating that the image can be placed in a portion of the graphical interface which will be subject to the particular visual effect. Otherwise, the system selects an image having image parameters that match the image parameters corresponding to the selected portion of the graphical interface.
