Abstract: Wireless communication techniques that include beam training performed to aid mobile devices in identifying beams for use in communications (e.g., uplink communications) are discussed. A mobile device may transmit to a base station an indication of a level of beamforming reciprocity of the mobile device. A base station/gNB may transmit an indication of one or more transmission beams to be used by the mobile device for uplink wireless communication based on the level of beamforming reciprocity. The one or more transmission beams to be used by the mobile device for uplink communication may include a reciprocal transmission beam. A mobile device not capable of full beamforming reciprocity may determine a transmission beam through uplink beam training. A mobile device may transmit to a base station information using at least one of the one or more transmission beams. Other aspects and features are also claimed and discussed.

An indication may be provided to a user equipment (UE) in each slot that indicates a presence or absence of a reference signal transmission in the slot.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) receives a first synchronization signal (SS) block including a first codeword and a second SS block including a second codeword. Each codeword is based on a linear encoding of a physical broadcast channel (PBCH) payload. The PBCH payloads include different timing indicators. The SS blocks are received at different times separated by a time increment. The UE determines, based on the time increment, one or more hypotheses of combined decoding metrics for the first codeword and the second codeword, and decodes the first codeword based on each of at least one hypothesis in the one or more hypotheses. The at least one hypothesis includes a correct hypothesis. The UE determines the first codeword based on an error detection procedure such as CRC verification performed when decoding the first codeword based on the correct hypothesis.

Abstract: A wireless device configured for discontinuous reception (DRX) may and operating in a system that uses directional beamforming may identify a random access time period after awaking from a DRX sleep mode. The device may then transmit a scheduling request during the random access time period. In some cases, the device may transmit the scheduling request using frequency resources also associated with random access transmissions. In other cases, the device may utilize resources that are not associated with random access. The determination of which frequency resources are used may depend on the length of the DRX. That is, if a device has been in a sleep mode for a long time, it may use random access frequency resources that are associated with a more robust transmission configuration.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A wireless node may transmit directional signals in a sweeping transmission pattern while receiving communications from a second wireless node. Another wireless node may then, during a listen-before-talk (LBT) procedure, receive one of the directional signals, and terminate a correspondence communication session to avoid potential interference. Additionally or alternatively, a wireless node may listen in directions in a sweeping receive pattern while transmitting to a second wireless node. While listening, the wireless node may detect a transmission from a third wireless node in a particular direction. The wireless node may then accordingly refrain from transmitting in that direction to avoid potential interference.

Abstract: In one aspect of the disclosure, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus are provided to reduce overhead at the expense of increasing latency for UEs with weak link gain, while latency for most UEs may remain the same. The apparatus may be a UE. The apparatus may transmit a RACH preamble to a base station in one or more attempts. The apparatus may receive, through a random access response message from the base station, information including the number of attempts the base station uses to decode the RACH preamble. The apparatus may adjust the transmission power for the connection request message according to the number of attempts the base station uses to decode the RACH preamble. The apparatus may transmit the connection request message using the adjusted transmission power.

Abstract: DM-RS symbols may be inserted in the beginning of a subframe, or in two parts of the subframe. In one aspect, a method, a computer-readable medium, and an apparatus for dynamically conveying DM-RS information are provided. The apparatus may be a base station. The apparatus may determine the number of DM-RS symbols and/or the locations within a subframe for transmission of the DM-RS symbols. The apparatus may transmit the number of the DM-RS symbols and/or the locations within the subframe for transmission of the DM-RS symbols to a UE. In another aspect, a UE may receive the number of DM-RS symbols and/or the locations within a subframe for transmission of the DM-RS symbols from a base station. The UE may decode the DM-RS symbols from the subframe based on the number of the DM-RS symbols and/or the locations within a subframe for transmission of the DM-RS symbols.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A base station and user equipment (UE) may use subframe configurations that include dynamically scheduled channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) symbols. For example, a base station may identify a subframe configuration that includes one or more sets of CSI-RS symbols of a subframe. The base station may indicate to a UE whether sets of CSI-RS symbols may be enabled or disabled during the subframe. The UE may receive multiple CSI-RSs at different locations within the subframe as indicated by the base station, and transmit CSI feedback to the base station based on at least one of the received CSI-RSs. In some examples, multiple base stations may coordinate the use of subframe configurations that include CSI-RS symbols that may be enabled or disabled.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for radar signaling are described. In some systems, devices may implement techniques to support coexistence for multiple radar sources using a phase-coded frequency modulated continuous wave waveform. A user equipment (e.g., a vehicle) may select a codeword (e.g., a pattern of parameters) from a codebook and may derive phase code information and waveform shape parameters from values specified in the codeword. The user equipment may apply phase modulation to at least one chirp of a waveform using the indicated phase code. In some cases, the phase-coded frequency modulated continuous wave waveform may resemble nested Zadoff-Chu sequences, where the waveform resembles a Zadoff-Chu sequence and the phase code resembles another Zadoff-Chu sequence. The phase code may support mitigating interference between radar waveforms that use the same slope and frequency offset parameters for chirps overlapping in time.
