    摘要: An oscillating cooled mold assembly for the continuous, high-speed casting of metallic strands or rods, especially upcasting strands or rods of copper alloys such as brass, has a hollow die in fluid communication with a melt typically held in a casting furnace. A cooler body surrounds the die in a tight-fitting relationship to form a solidification front in the melt as it advances through the casting zone of the die. The strand or rod formed from the solidified melt is pulled through the die while the mold oscillates in a direction substantially parallel to the direction of travel of the rod.

    摘要: A system to prevent, retard or reverse the decomposition of silicon carbide articles during high temperature plasma sintering. Preferably, the system comprises sintering a silicon carbide refractory or ceramic green body in a closed sintering environment, such as a closed tube, with strategic placement of the plasma torch or torches, exhaust outlet and tube. As sintering proceeds, a silicon vapor pressure builds up within the tube, retarding the decomposition of the silicon carbide body. The plasma torch, exhaust outlet, and tubes are positioned so that buoyant convective flow is maximized to increase the heat transfer and energy efficiency. In another embodiment, a "sacrificial" source of silicon carbide is placed into the sintering furnace. The silicon carbide in the sacrificial source starts to decompose before the silicon carbide refractory or ceramic article, creating a supersaturated atmosphere of silicon vapor species in the furnace. This prevents, retards or reverses the silicon carbide decomposition reactions and thus maintains the integrity of the refractory or ceramic article being sintered. Preferably, the sacrificial source is placed in a closed sintering environment along with the silicon carbide articles being sintered.

    摘要: This relates to a device for crushing sand lumps. The device includes a tub which is resiliently mounted and is provided with means for vibrating the same in a generally vertical direction parallel to a rear wall of the tub. The tub rear wall is hollow and is provided on the inner face with perforated crusher plates. Sand flow through the crusher plates is down through the hollow rear wall and there is an upwardly directed airwash for the falling sand. The lower portion of the rear wall is in the form of a door mounted for swinging movement about a horizontal axis. The door is operated by a cylinder having an axis parallel to the direction of vibration and the door is opened during the vibration of the tub so as to direct scrap and uncrushed lumps out through the lower portion of the rear wall in the same direction of salvaged sand flow. The crusher plates include a main wall having elongated slots forming the perforations and there are lugs projecting forwardly from the main wall above and below the slots with the vertical dimensions of the lugs and slots and the spacing thereof being in accordance with the amplitude of intended vibration to provide a maximum crushing effect.

After being discharged from the first cleaning mechanism, the workpieces are inverted and passed through a second cleaning mechanism where cleaning media again is directed against the workpieces. In the second cleaning mechanism, the workpieces are separated so that the ends of the workpieces can be cleaned. The invention includes turning mechanisms for inverting the workpieces one-by-one, as well as devices for controlling the movement of the workpieces through the different cleaning and turning mechanisms.

    摘要: This relates to a portable abrasive throwing wheel device or abrasive blasting device which is utilized for blasting castings and the like to effect the cleaning thereof. The portable device is of such a construction whereby its total weight is on the order of 100 pounds and is so suspended wherein it has very little thrust reaction on an operator so that it may be readily manipulated. Further, the principal thrust of the device is carried by the suspension for the device and otherwise is directed towards the operator so that it may be readily counteracted. The portable device includes a fixed motor and a fixed abrasive supply with a throwing wheel carried by the motor and only a housing portion being movable. The housing is rotatable about the axis of the motor and serves to permit the discharge opening of the device to be tilted to the desired angle for directing the abrasive blast where desired. Several abrasive supply systems are provided as are several mountings for the portable device.

    摘要: A method for production of lined gaskets or gasket inserts with which a pasty substance is arranged between the sealing surfaces (or correspondingly developed forms) and separated from these by two external layers, and hardened between the form-producing sealing surfaces. The pasty substance preferably contains a filler of quartz powder whose void fraction is filled with a 2-component artificial resin. The pasty substance can be applied with the assistance of a spray gun. A preferred form of construction of such a gasket contains a hardened material layer and a corrugated ring adjoining it, which, along an inner peripheral area are surrounded by a band-shaped shell and are arranged between two gasket insert rings, which for their part are surrounded by a customary shell of polytetrafluoroethylene or such-like. The production of gaskets of this type can take place at the point of use with the aid of simple means, so that costly operational interruptions can be shortened without expensive fitting operations or a re-ordering from a manufacturer being necessary.
