Abstract:
A fluid filter such as an oil filter for a vehicle is provided. The fluid filter includes a body having a first, closed end and a second, open end. A plate is coupled to the second end, the plate having a first surface and a threaded portion having a thread pitch. A channel member has an outer edge coupled to the second end of the body, wherein the channel member defines a recess with an open side opposite the first surface of the plate. A stop member is disposed within the recess of the channel member, the stop member having a first height. A sealing member is coupled to the stop member, and the sealing member has a second height greater than the first height of the stop member.
Abstract:
An insulator for a spark plug comprises a first segment surrounding the terminal, a second segment extending from the first segment, and a third segment extending from the second segment. A gap is disposed between the third segment of the insulator and the outer shell. At least one coating having a least one layer is disposed on a surface of the third segment.
Abstract:
A method of applying a coating to a spark plug insulator comprises the steps of forming a slurry solution and applying the slurry solution as a first coating to an insulative sleeve configured for use in a spark plug. The method further includes the step of heat treating the insulative sleeve to a temperature of between about 500 degrees Celsius and about 1000 degrees Celsius for between about 10 minutes and about 2 hour(s). Still further, the method includes the step of applying a second coating overlying at least a portion of the first coating, wherein the second coating comprises an organic binder.
Abstract:
An insulator for a spark plug is provided having an insulator tip. The insulator tip includes a feature extending radially inward from an exterior surface of the insulator tip.
Abstract:
A spark plug is provided having an insulator with a center axis. A center electrode is coupled to the insulator and has a second end extending from an end of the insulator, the center electrode having a first tip member. A ground electrode is spaced apart from the center electrode, wherein the ground electrode has a first portion extending substantially parallel to the center axis and a second portion extending on an angle from the first portion and relative to the center axis. A second tip member is disposed on the second portion of the ground electrode such that the first tip member and the second tip member cooperate to form a gap.
Abstract:
A ground electrode is provided having a ground electrode body, the ground electrode body having an anchored end and a non-anchored end opposite the anchored end. The ground electrode includes a plateau extending from a surface of the ground electrode body adjacent the non-anchored end. In illustrative embodiments, the plateau is formed by removing a portion of the ground electrode body near the non-anchored end. The plateau is configured to be exposed around its periphery. A noble metal tip is fixably attached to the plateau.
Abstract:
An electrode for a spark plug includes an electrode tip end. A first weld affixes at least a portion of the noble metal tip to the tip end of the electrode. The noble metal tip has a fold around its periphery. A second weld joins the fold of the noble metal tip to the tip end of the electrode and creates a seal over the first weld.
Abstract:
A spark plug includes an insulative sleeve. A glaze coating is disposed on an exterior surface of the insulative sleeve. The glaze coating includes a boric acid, a borosilicate glass, a barium borate glass, a phosphorous glass, a silicate glass, or a combination thereof. The glasses are independently modified with a modifier selected from the group consisting of alkali group metals, alkali earth group metals, aluminum, silicon, a halogen, or a combination thereof. The glaze coating has a softening point between about 650° C. and about 1100° C.
Abstract:
A spark plug is provided that includes an improved jamb nut configuration, which provides improved torque transfer and prevents inadvertent separation of the jamb nut from the remaining components of the spark plug, particularly during removal from the engine head. The spark plug is configured for axial insertion into the plug hole, and may have a non-axisymmetric ground shield that fits into the plug hole, wherein the plug hole is also provided with a complementary non-axisymmetric shape. The spark plug includes a central insulator, which has an inner end surrounding a central electrode and supporting the ground shield, which is mounted on the insulator to support a ground strap adjacent the electrode for forming a spark therebetween. The insulator and ground shield are axially slidable into the plug hole, and the jamb nut is rotatable to fix the spark plug in position in a predefined orientation. The insulator includes a retaining clip outwardly of the jamb nut that permits rotation of the jamb nut relative to the insulator but prevents axial separation of the jamb nut during removal of the spark plug from the engine head. An improved tool is also provided which better distributes torque transfer to the jamb nut and includes a catch to facilitate pulling of the spark plug from the engine head.
Abstract:
A filter assembly comprises a housing open at a first end and holding a filter element therein and an end plate secured to the housing and closing the first end and enclosing the filter element within the housing. The plate includes a first inlet opening, a second inlet opening, and an outlet opening. The filter assembly further includes a fluid flow controller disposed between an end of the filter element and the end plate. The flow controller includes a valve including a first portion cooperating with the first inlet opening and a second portion cooperating with the second inlet opening. The fluid flow controller further includes a spring-loaded valve seat in communication with the valve and providing resistance to movement of the first portion of the valve.
