The present invention provides a system for cooking and/or heating a food product rapidly with the use of microwave and hot oil heating, which are applied simultaneously during the entire or partial period of the cooking and/or heating time. The said food product may be frozen prior to processing, and may consist of an outer wrapper and an inner filling. It is desirable that after a relatively short cooking and/or heating process, the outer wrapper becomes crispy with a uniform golden-brown color while the inner filling reaches a desired temperature.

Method and apparatus for acoustic wave generation and transmission into a subsurface earth formation, particularly adapted for use in borehole shear wave logging. A logging sonde adapted to be suspended in a borehole traversing a formation houses a source of acoustic waves. The source simultaneously generates a plurality of acoustic waves propagating generally radially outward from locations within the sonde housing adjacent the vertical central axis thereof and will interfere to produce multipole acoustic waves in the formation. Detector means within the housing spaced longitudinally from the source detect acoustic energy in the formation resulting from the generated waves. In a preferred embodiment, the source includes a cross-shaped rod assembly comprised of two rods perpendicular to each other and joined at their mid-points through which the central axis passes. The rods lie in a plane perpendicular to the central axis and are preferably each comprised of a different magnetostrictive material such that the strain constant of the rods differ in sign. Ends of each rod have a respective acoustic radiator attached thereto facing radially outward. Upon electrical excitation of the rods, they may be caused to vibrate along their respective longitudinal axes substantially 180.degree. out of phase with respect to each other. Vibration of the reflectors of the first and second rods, in response thereto, set up respective first and second pairs of acoustic waves also out of phase with respect to each other which propagate from the radiators into the formation, where they interfere to produce the desired quadrupole acoustic wave.

A portable sanitary device for cleansing the lower torso of the human body by a stream of warm water extracted from a reservoir of water heated by an electrical heating device is disclosed. The reservoir of the device comprises an enclosed lower compartment containing a heating device and a constant volume of warmed water. An upper compartment open at the top receives a supply of cold water. The upper compartment is detachable from the lower compartment to permit filling with cold water. The upper cold water reservoir contains a tubular extension which extends downward and when mounted to the sanitary device, extends to the bottom of the lower warm water reservoir. A hollow breathing tube extending from the lower compartment to the top of the upper compartment permits gravity feed of the cold water into the warm water reservoir as warm water is pumped from the lower compartment.

An acoustic energy reflector means within the housing reflects the waves radially outwards of the axis and into the formation at angles generally perpendicular to the axis. In a preferred embodiment, the generator means comprises four cylindrical magnetostrictively energized elements disposed about the central axis of the sonde, each having an axis parallel to the central axis, so that the four axes of the elements, when viewed in the direction of the central axis, define four corners of a square. The elements are designed so that upon energization, a given element vibrates longitudinally out of phase relative to the two elements adjacent thereto, vibration of the four elements in concert generating two positive and two negative waves which, when reflected into the formation, interfere to produce a quadrupole shear wave.

A fried food article having improved crispness. Inner and outer pastry shells are provided, the inner shell sealedly containing a desired filling, and the outer shell being disposed thereabouts. Means are provided in the outer shell design for decreasing deep frying time to achieve desired outer shell crispness while avoiding undesirable drying out of the filling. In one embodiment, such means takes the form of a plurality of apertures in the outer shell to facilitate frying oil substantially contacting both the inner and outer surfaces of the outer shell. In an alternate embodiment, spacing means are provided alone or in combination with the apertures providing heat insulation between the inner and outer shells in the former case, and additional space for hot oil in the latter case, both to enance the resultant crispness of the food article upon frying.
