摘要： Oral appliances adapted to for spacing the occlusal surfaces of the teeth of a user are disclosed. The oral appliances have an integral retention band interconnecting a first bite pad and a second bite pad. The first bite pad can include a first spacer and the second bite pad can include a second spacer that are configured to maintain the spacing of the occlusal surfaces of opposing teeth of a user during clenching or upon an impact to the jaw. Methods for the manufacture of composite oral appliances are also disclosed. The methods include forming a composite oral appliance over a model of a user's mouth.

摘要： A performance enhancing and force absorbing mouthguard adapted to fit the upper teeth of the mouth of an athlete wherein the mouthguard is of a composite material. The first internal layer is a nonsoftenable flexible framework which will permit the mouthguard to hold its shape during fitting as well as to absorb and dissipate significant impact conveyed to the upper teeth. The framework includes hard, durable bite plate wedges which lower the condyle from the temporomandibular joint in a fulcrum action to place the lower jaw in an optimum condition preventing impingement upon the nerves and arteries as well as spacing the upper and lower teeth apart. Elastomeric traction pads are on the bottom of the mouthguard and are grippingly engaged by the posterior teeth of the lower jaw. The elastomeric pads extend forwardly to form an anterior impact brace on the front of the mouthguard. While the framework and traction pads are mechanically interlocked, a softenable material is placed over the mouthguard excepting the contact portions of the traction pads and anterior impact brace to encapsulate the mouthguard and to permit custom fitting.

An adjustable arch adapted to expand and contract to be molded to the palate is provided connecting the posterior pads together within the mouth and out of the way of the tongue to maintain the position of the occlusal posterior pads within the mouth during use and to prevent loss of the pads such as by swallowing. An expandable serpentine bridge may be embedded in the arch.

摘要： A wishbone tether is provided for remote anchor attachment of the mouthguard assembly which is worn by the user to protect the teeth, tongue, mouth and lips of the user. 摘要： A boiling and stabilization tray has a handle end, shank portion and mouthguard cradle end for supportably receiving and stabilizing a mouthguard for custom fitting. The mouthguard cradle end is connected to the shank opposite the handle end and has a platform for supportably receiving the mouthguard base. An upwardly curved crescent portion engages and supports the anterior and posterior portions of the upward inner lingual wall of the mouthguard. Upwardly curved tabs also extend from the cradle end for engagement with and support of the anterior portion of the upward outer labial wall of the mouthguard. The cradle supports and stabilizes the softened mouthguard during heating, assists in positioning and aligning of the heated mouthguard within the user's mouth, and assists the user in custom fitting of the mouthguard with respect to the user's upper and lower jaw teeth.
