Abstract:
An assay apparatus employing total internal reflection of excitation radiation at the interface between an optically conductive rod or fiber and a surrounding liquid phase of lower index of refraction. Immobilized on the surface of the fiber is a component of a complex formed in an immunochemical-type reaction; a fluorophore that can be excited into fluorescence by the excitation radiation is attached to another component of the complex. The fiber is coaxially disposed in cantilevered manner within a length of tubing, so that the excitation radiation can be launched into the unsupported end of the fiber and the fluorescent radiation tunneling back into the fiber may be observed at the same fiber end, thereby preventing that portion of the fiber surface between the unsupported fiber end and the mounted end being in contact with other than the surrounding liquid phase.
Abstract:
A carriage is longitudinally reciprocated along a fixed base by a motor. A first pair of arms are pivotally connected at their lower ends to opposite sides of the base. A second pair of arms are pivotally connected at their upper ends to corresponding ones of the upper ends of the first arms and at their lower ends to opposite sides of the carriage. With a person reclined on his or her back, one of the person's legs extends between the first arms and between the second arms. The foot is held to a foot support pivotally mounted on the carriage. The thigh is held in a thigh support which extends between the first arms so that reciprocating movement of the carriage articulates the knee and hip joints of the leg.
Abstract:
A source of optical wave energy for an optical communication system. One end of an optical waveguide fiber bundle is disposed in light-receiving relationship with respect to light from a Lambertian-type light source such as a light emitting diode. A spherical bead of transparent material disposed between the diode and the fiber bundle endface provides a rugged and inexpensive optical device that tends to collimate the light emitted from the diode.
Abstract:
The present invention enables a three-pane page flow editor optimized for viewing and editing a page flow. It provides a visual representation of nodes/actions and the connections among them, enabling the ability to read and edit connections between nodes in a local area of the page flow without the overlaps between lines and crossovers once the page flow grows complex in real applications. In addition, it detects and resolves mismatches between annotations of a plurality of action outputs—representing data that an action can provide to a page, and a plurality of page inputs—representing data required by a page in the page flow. This description is not intended to be a complete description of, or limit the scope of, the invention. Other features, aspects, and objects of the invention can be obtained from a review of the specification, the figures, and the claims.
Abstract:
A system and method comprising, sharing information between a plurality of participants in a collaboration; and exposing a set of functions that enable a participant in the plurality of participants to share the information, the set of functions comprising: first functions to facilitate establishing a context in which to interact with the plurality of participants; and second functions to facilitate storing and retrieving values from a shared state, wherein the shared state is accessible within the context.
Abstract:
An abstract component model can be used to drive an editor by providing an underlying stateful model for component implementation without the need to re-implement details, such as event listening, lifecycle and update management, etc. An implementation needs to provide objects that make up the model, some logic to listen to environmental changes and recognize when an update is needed, and a builder which can generate a lightweight version of the model based on the current “state of the world.” In addition, abstract component model is operable to support an editor such as page flow.
Abstract:
The invention comprises a spatial filter and a method of spatially filtering a laser beam, particularly a high power laser beam. The inventive spatial filter and method of use is especially suited for use in an optical system for writing index gratings in optical waveguides. The invention provides a method of writing gratings in optical waveguide fiber that results in improved grating performance.
Abstract:
An optical coupler 10 has two fibers 20, 30 that are adjacent each other in a coupling region 12. One of the fibers has a clad doped with a photosensitive glass, such as germania. The photosensitive glass is exposed to suitable radiation to alter the index of refraction of fiber and tune the coupler 10 to the selected coupling frequency.
Abstract:
A golf putter having a novel putter head is disclosed. The putter head assembly includes a putter body of rigid material, preferrably metal, and a resilient full face single layer elastomeric striking face insert. The putter body and insert are joined together through the use of a shear joint around the periphery of the parts and bonded together using a structural adhesive designed for shock absorbing devices. Air/gas egress holes are incorporated within the putter body to eliminate compressibility effects of the air contained within the internal cavity, created upon assembly of the putter body and the elastomeric striking face insert.
