The thickness P1' of the opposite end portion is set in the range from 1/3 or thicker to 2/3 or thinner than the thickness P19 of the central parallel portion.

    摘要: A magneto-resistance type magnetic head having: a base; a longitudinal bias portion, formed over the base and having a first upper flat surface and a first slanted portion, for generating a longitudinal bias magnetic field; a lead portion laminated directly on the longitudinal bias portion so as to cover the first upper flat portion and to expose the first slanted portion of the longitudinal bias portion, wherein the lead portion is made of non-magnetic material and has a second upper flat surface and a second slanted portion, and wherein the first and second slanted portions collectively serve as a slanted surface; and a magneto-resistance material layer formed over the longitudinal bias portion and the lead portion, wherein the magneto-resistance material layer directly contacts an upper surface of the base and magnetically couples with the exposed longitudinal bias portion through the slanted surface of the longitudinal bias portion, wherein the magneto-resistance material layer is terminated on the slanted surface.

    摘要: A method of manufacturing an air flow type thin film magnetic head includes the steps of providing a slider for a thin film magnetic head; forming a photo-sensitive layer directly on the slider: subjecting the photo-sensitive layer to a light beam having controlled loci to form a desired pattern on the photo-sensitive layer, their: loci of the light beam corresponding to configuration of rails to be formed on a surface of the slider; and forming the rails in accordance with the desired pattern. The loci of the light beam is controlled by a data processor. Various rail patterns including an asymmetrical and non-parallel rail pattern can be easily formed on a slider of a magnetic head.

    摘要: A thin film magnetic head includes a lower core portion provided on a substrate and having a pole portion, a magnetic gap layer provided on the lower core portion, an insulating layer provided on the magnetic gap layer, conduction coils provided in the insulating layer, an upper core portion provided on the insulating layer, and an overcoat layer provided on the upper core portion. The upper core portion has a pole portion of a reduced width and a non-pole portion having a top-forming portion and an inclined section-forming portion formed on an inclined section of the insulating layer. The inclined section-forming section is made of a plurality of layers and a core angle of an uppermost layer of the plurality of layers of the non-pole portion is set at an angle which is 120 degrees or larger and is smaller than about 180 degrees and a core angle of a lower layer or layers of the plurality of layers of the non-pole portion is set at an angle which is smaller than the core angle of the uppermost layer and is larger than about 60 degrees. In one aspect of the invention, a foremost end portion of the lower layer of the inclined section-forming portion is located rearwardly of a foremost end portion of the the uppermost layer.

    摘要: When writing data on a recording medium, a thin film magnetic head must concentrate its magnetic fluxes to a tip end of a pole thereof. For this reason, ineffective leakage magnetic fluxes to be outputted in the writing must be reduced as much as possible by desirably varying construction or formation of the thin film magnetic head. These magnetic fluxes are passed and converged through a lower layer core which is formed within a recess formed within a substrate of the thin film magnetic head. Through several experiments and study, it is proved that an average inclination angle at a side wall slope of the recess must be ranged from 15 degrees to 75 degrees. In order to form such recess, portions other than a portion at which the recess is to be formed on the substrate are covered by a patterned resist; the substrate is heated and the resist is partially flown so that the average inclination angle at the side edge portion of patterned resist will become equal to or smaller than 70 degrees; the recess is formed by an ion beam etching; and then remained resist is removed from the substrate. Thus, a smooth slope can be obtained at the edge of recess, by which the magnetic fluxes can be smoothly converged at the tip end of pole so that the recording can be performed with high recording density.
