Abstract:
Electro-luminescent output in the visible spectrum results from use of a GaAs infrared-emitting diode provided with a coating of a compound having at least one each of two different anions or at least one anion vacancy in some unit cells. The compound, exemplified by the oxychlorides and fluorochlorides, contains the ion pair Yb3 -Er3 , Yb3 -Ho3 , Yb3 -Tm3 or mixtures thereof.
Abstract:
Partial substitution of small amounts of cobalt may result in a reduction in size of ''''bubble'''' magnetic domains in a variety of canted antiferromagnetic materials exemplified by rare earth orthoferrites. The reduction in domain size is ordinarily accomplished by virtue of a shift in the magnetic reorientation temperature, permitting improved device operation in this temperature region.
Abstract:
TYPE II (THREE LEVEL) TRANSITION METAL LASERS (SUCH AS THOSE DEPENDENT ON CR3+) ARE CONVERTED TO THPE III (FOURLEVEL) BY COUPLING THE TRANSITION METAL ION TO AN APPROPRIATE RARE EARTH ION. SUITABLE RARE EARTH, INCLUDED AS CATIONS OF THE HOST COMPOSITION, INCLUDE CERIUM, EUROPIUM, TERBIUM, PRASEODYMIUM, AND YTTERBIUM.
