Abstract:
Techniques are described for identifying items that have recently undergone an interest burst. Items that have recently undergone an interest burst are identified by comparing how many interest-actions have been performed on the items during a current time window against how many interest-actions have been performed on the items historically. Various tests are performed to rule out candidates that are not likely to be of interest to other users. In addition, various spam detection techniques are described for reducing the possibility that the items that are listed as interest burst items are listed because of spam.
Abstract:
Embodiments are directed towards modifying a distribution of writers as either a push writer or a pull writer based on a cost model that decides for a given content reader whether it is more effective for the writer to be a pull writer or a push writer. A cache is maintained for each content reader for caching content items pushed by a push writer in the content writer's push list of writers when the content is generated. At query time, content items are pulled by the content reader based on writers a content reader's pull list. One embodiment of the cost model employs data about a previous number of requests for content items for a given writer for a number of previous blended display results of content items. When a writer is determined to be popular, mechanisms are proposed for pushing content items to a plurality of content readers.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for selecting a diverse mix of content items that may be displayed to a user. Content items such as user-generated events are received from a variety of sources. One or more content items are added to a set of content items based on a diversity of characteristics. The diversity of characteristics for the one or more content items may be calculated by measuring a diversity of characteristics of the set as if the one or more content items were added to the set. Content items that produce a greater diversity are selected for addition to the set. The set is displayed to the user, who is provided with a more meaningful mix of content due to the greater diversity in content.
Abstract:
A set of general criteria have been defined to improve the efficacy of a tagging system, and have been applied to present collaborative tag suggestions to a user. The collaborative tag suggestions are based on a goodness measure for tags derived from collective user authorities to combat spam. The goodness measure is iteratively adjusted by a reward-penalty algorithm during tag selection. The collaborative tag suggestions can also incorporate other sources of tags, e.g., content-based auto-generated tags.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed towards systems and methods for using community annotations to content items as anchortext for search and index purposes. The method according to one embodiment comprises generating one or more items of personalized information by a user for storage in a user profile, the one or more items of personalized information associated with one or more content items, the one or more content items and the one or more items of personalized information comprising one or more words. One or more items of personalized information is selected from a given user profile. The method further comprises indexing the one or more words in the one or more content items and the one or more words in the selected personalized information into an index, identifying one or more content items responsive to on or more query words in a query of the index and returning the identified content items as a result set to the user.
Abstract:
A system for automatic management of an e-service which partitions an e-service life-cycle among operational functionalities and non-operational functionalities and tends to the operational functionalities, thereby reducing the development burden of an e-service and enabling e-service owners to stay more focused on business related issues. In addition, a system according to the present teachings facilitates the smooth transition among the phases of an e-service life-cycle and facilitates the partition of system functionality into physically distributed components.
Abstract:
In a method for expressway routing among peers, a request is received to forward data. The destination is determined from said request. A routing table is searched for an expressway route based on zones to the destination. The data is transmitted across the expressway route to the destination.

Abstract:
A method for sharing content with a user includes receiving from a user a first set of keywords for annotating an annotated user; receiving from the user a second set of keywords that designate whether annotated content annotated by at least one keyword included in the second set of keywords may be shared with the annotated user; storing in a data store a first association of the first set of keywords with the annotated user, and a second association of the second set of keywords with the annotated user; receiving a keyword selection for a select keyword and an identifier for the annotated user; and displaying on the client system content annotated by the select keyword if the annotated user is annotated by at least one keyword in the first set of keywords, and if the select keyword is included in the second set of keywords.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for ranking a result set. The method according to one embodiment comprises selecting an item from the result set, selecting a user profile from one or more user profiles and selecting one or more items of personalized information from the selected user profile. A rank is calculated for the item on the basis of the selected one or more items of personalized information and the selected item in the result set is ranked in accordance with the calculated rank.
