Abstract:
A water reaction synthesis with polyoxyethylene diol, diisocyanate and dibutyltin bis lauryl mercaptide produces a high molecular weight thermoplastic polyurethane-urea linear polymer with surface resistivity 10.sup.11 -10.sup.6 ohm/sq. Thermoplastic and/or elastomeric antistatic compositions containing other melt processable polymers and/or filler, and the polymer exhibit permanent protection. Antistatic protection can be increased when the polymer complexes with a metal salt such as lithium chloride, or lithium acetate.
Abstract:
A high speed product delivery system is provided which delivers individual flexible web products from a product drum to three or more transfer drums. The transfer drums, in turn, deliver products to further transfer drums or to packaging devices. The system permits increases in the production rate of the products without increasing the demand on the packing devices.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for supplying gas to a vacuum drum device and which substantially reduces or eliminates the problem of particle and debris buildup in the vacuum passages of the device is provided. The apparatus supplies gas, preferably at a pressure greater than atmospheric pressure, to the vacuum ports of a vacuum drum and includes a source of vacuum, a source of gas, and a rotatable vacuum drum. The drum includes a plurality of vacuum ports on the surface thereof, with the vacuum ports communicating with a plurality of vacuum passages extending generally outwardly from the interior of the drum. A valve alternately connects the passages to the vacuum source and to the source of gas. The selective exposure of the vacuum ports to either a source of vacuum or a source of gas prevents smoke, particles, and other contaminants from being drawn into the vacuum passages of the drum during operation of the system.
Abstract:
Apparatus and method for producing diamond films. A source of free electrons is used to bombard a carbon block. Incident electrons vaporize the carbon surface, and free carbon atoms are ionized from collisions of the electrons with the carbon atoms. A collimating plate located above the carbon block includes an aperture for permitting the vaporized carbon ions to be collimated. On the other side of the collimating plate are first and second deflector plates, symmetrical with respect to the axis of the collimating plate aperture. A voltage potential therebetween produces an electrostatic field perpendicular to the axis of the aperture. Substrates located in the electrostatic field receive a carbon ion film which is essentially a diamond film structure.
Abstract:
An arrangement for mounting a radio distress beacon (1) comprises a split casing (4) which is bouyant and which is normally held together and to the deck of a vessel by a harness (7). If the vessel should sink the harness is released, the casing rises to the water surface and springs (20) overcome the hydrostatic pressure at shallow depths and force the halves of the casing apart, so releasing the beacon.

Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a rural mailbox indicator and security lock including an elongated rod designed to be moved between three positions, a first position indicating that the box is unlocked but no mail is there for pick-up, a second position wherein the box is open and mail is in the box to be picked up and a third position indicating that the box is securely locked against unauthorized entry. The elongated rod is rotatably mounted on a cam which is adjacent a locking mechanism, with the cam having a cut out portion designed to receive a latch of the locking mechanism in the third mentioned position of the elongated rod described above, with the cam further including an arcuate rim designed to interengage with a catch formed on the mail box door so that in the position of the elongated rod corresponding to locked condition, the door is prevented from being opened until the locking mechanism is released by a key.
Abstract:
A boat having a plurality of separable water-tight transverse sections combined end-to-end to form a hull assembly. A pair of tendons extend longitudinally along the hull assembly and are attached to the bow and stern sections. The tendons follow goedetic lines along opposite sides of the longitudinal center line of the hull below the waterline and below the neutral axis.
Abstract:
A windvane powered, self-steering device for sail boats of the type employing a steering rudder and trim tab. The windvane pivots about an axis that is tiltably adjustable for light or heavy winds. The windvane axis is also rotatably adjustable with respect to the center line of the sail boat to provide course adjustment. When engaged for operation, the windvane senses the relative ship-wind direction and, when the ship is off course, translates the wind forces on the windvane into corrective movements of the trim tab and rudder to return the sail boat to course. In this operational or steering mode, the self-steering device is characterized by its ability to fully transmit wind power at all angles of tilt of the windvane axis, also, by its ability to be separately adjusted to any desired angle of tilt (wind sensitivity adjustment) or rotation (course adjustment). A preferred embodiment of the self-steering device includes means to initially employ the windvane in a trailing operation to establish a desired steering position for course (trailing mode) and thereafter to employ the windvane in a weathervaning operation for steering corrections (operational mode).
Abstract:
A wear coating is disclosed that includes a layer treated by a trifunctional organosilane. An article is also disclosed, the article having a surface to which the wear coating is applied. A method of applying the wear coating is also disclosed. In some embodiments, the organosilane is trimethylsilane and the wear coating is applied by chemical vapor deposition, followed by heat treating the wear coating in the presence of the trimethylsilane.
