Water-soluble disazo dyestuffs of the formula ##STR1## WHEREIN A represents phenyl, naphthyl or phenyl or naphthyl substituted by lower alkyl or sulphamoyl,B represents phenyl, lower alkyl-phenyl, naphthyl, phenol, lower alkylphenol, naphthol, benzoylaminonaphthol, N-methyl-N'-m-chloro-phenyl barbituric acid, or di-(phenylamino) malonic acid,Q represents 1,3- or 1,4-phenylene or 1,3- or 1,4-phenylene substituted by lower alkyl, chloro or bromo,R represents lower alkyl or COO.sup.- M.sup.+,X represents hydroxy or amino,Y represents a fiber reactive grouping capable of covalent bonding with cellulose and polyamide fibers group directly linked to a ring carbon atom of A or B,m represents a positive integer of at most 3, andn represents a positive integer of at most 5,And wherein which when m is 3, one Y is linked to A and the other to B are described. These dyestuffs are useful as dyes for cellulose and polyamide fibers.

Betainic complex azo dyestuff-cobalt compound consisting essentially of, per molecule:A cobalt atom;One molecule of a colorless tridentate organic ligand which is coordinatively bound to said cobalt atom by way of three nitrogen atoms which is free from ionogenic groups which do not partake in complex formation, each of said nitrogen atoms participating in the formation of a 5- to 6- membered ring of which said cobalt atom is a member; andOne radical of a mono- or dis- azo dyestuff capable of forming a bicyclic metal complex with cobalt and containing one sulphonic acid group, whereby a complex dyestuff-cobalt compound is formed which has the character of an inert salt (betaine), are disclosed. These compounds are useful for the dyeing and/or pigmenting of polymeric and copolymeric organic material, e.g., lacquers, synthetic plastics or spinning masses, as well as for the dyeing of polyamide fibers from weekly acid bath.

Metallizable disazo dyes of the formula (1) ##STR1## in which A and A' independently of one another are each the radical of a diazo component of the benzene or naphthalene series, at least one of the groups A or A' carrying a metallizable hydroxyl or carboxyl group in the o-position relative to the azo group, and X is substituted or unsubstituted phenylene, naphthylene or C.sub.2 -C.sub.4 -alkylene and R is C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl, COO-Q or CONQQ.sub.1, in which Q and Q.sub.1 are each hydrogen or C.sub.1 -C.sub.4 -alkyl.In the form of their cobalt or chromium complexes, the dyes are suitable for dyeing natural or synthetic polyamide materials, and especially wool or leather.

A mixture of at least three selected 1:2 chromium or 1:2 cobalt complex dyes of different colors and belonging to the azo or azomethine series is used for dyeing leather and furs. The mixtures of dyes make it possible for the first time to dye leather by the trichromatic process.

These dyes are suitable for dyeing and printing nitrogen-containing material such as wool, silk, synthetic polyamide and especially leather.

Asymmetric 1:2-chrome complex dyes of the formula: ##STR1## wherein A is the radical of 1-hydroxynaphthalene or 2-hydroxynaphthalene,R.sub.1 is hydrogen, chlorine or methyl,R.sub.2 is hydrogen, nitro or chlorine, andKa.sup.+ is a cation, and of the substituents X.sub.1, X.sub.2 and X.sub.3 one is an SO.sub.3 group, and the other two are hydrogen, X.sub.3 being hydrogen when R.sub.1 is chlorine and R.sub.2 is hydrogen,give blue shades on leather and other polyamides, which shades are lightfast and fast to wet processing.

A process of dyeing polyamide-containing material is disclosed using dyes of the following formula: ##STR1## wherein Me is cobalt or chromium,Ka.sup..sym. is a cation,p is 0 or 1,R and R' are each independently of the other hydrogen or a group of the formula --CO--(O).sub.n --Y, wheren is 0 or 1, andY is C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl, or phenyl which may be substituted by nitro, halogen, C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkyl or C.sub.1 -C.sub.5 alkoxy, with the proviso that R and R' may not both be hydrogen if p is 1.Novel dyes within this class are also disclosed. The process is especially useful for dyeing leather.
