    摘要: A method for cutting at least one elongated workpiece (13b) with a saw head assembly (10b) having a cutting blade (11b). The saw assembly (10b) further includes a guide mechanism for providing relative guided movement between the cutting blade (11b) and the workpiece (13b) along a cutting line (14b). The method comprises the steps of placing the workpiece (13b) across the cutting line (14b). Further, moving at least one of the cutting blade (11b) and the workpiece (13b) along the cutting line (14b) from a starting position (28b) on one side (27b') of said workpiece (13b) to a parked position (37b) on an opposite side (27b) of the workpiece (13b). In the parked position, the entire cutting stretch is positioned beyond the workpiece (13b). Next, the cut part or portion (32b) is displaced away from the cutting line (14b) using the workpiece (13b), while the cutting blade (11b) is in the parked position (37b). Thereafter, the workpiece (13b) is returned to the opposite side of the cutting line (14b), and the cutting blade (11b) is returned from the parked position (37b) to the starting position (28b). Accordingly, the cut parts (32b) and the workpiece (13b) are repositioned away from the cutting kerf (15b), which prevents their contact with the cutting blade (11b) during return of the cutting blade (11b) to the starting position (28b).

    摘要: A compact, variable speed pulley assembly is disclosed in which pulley faces are mounted to a pulley shaft for rotation with respect thereto and for relative axial displacement along the shaft. A torsion spring is connected to transmit a torque force from the shaft to at least one of the pulley faces. The pulley assembly further includes a motion damping brake which applies a sliding friction force resisting relative angular displacement between the pulley faces and the pulley shaft. This friction force damps out over-correction by the torsion spring for speed variations induced by changes in the V-belt width, machine dynamic imbalance and workpiece characteristics. Fatigue of the torsion spring is eliminated without increasing the pulley assembly bulk by providing a second compression spring or providing a conical torsion spring.

    摘要: Band saw apparatus are disclosed which include a drive assembly formed for support and guided movement of a saw blade for cutting of a workpiece, an endless band saw mounted to the drive assembly, and reciprocation apparatus formed for reciprocation of the blade toward and away from the workpiece to enable variation of the force per unit area of the cutting edge of the blade on the workpiece. In the preferred form blade reciprocation is provided by a pair of spaced apart guide assemblies each including independently operable fluid piston-cylinder assemblies coupled to a lever carrying guide blocks which engage the back edge of the saw blade. The guide blocks can be reciprocated by the fluid piston-cylinder assemblies in synchronism or out-of-phase to vary the amplitude, frequency and duration of displacement independently of blade speed and at two locations along a length of the blade so as to produce oscillation as well as simple reciprocation. Alternative blade displacement assembly constructions and a method for cutting workpieces employing the apparatus also are disclosed.

    摘要: A material-handling apparatus and method are disclosed for use in high-speed feeding of bar stock or the like to a precise registered position with respect to a machine tool. The apparatus includes a stop which senses the position of the material and is coupled to a controller for a high-speed conveyor. The stop causes disengagement of the high speed conveyor in advance of the registered position and simultaneously causes an inching device, such as a movable vise, to move into gripping engagement with the work piece. The inching vise brakes the speed or advancement of the stock to an inching speed, and when the stop senses advancement of the work piece to the registered position at the inching speed, the inching vise advancement is terminated. Reversing of the inching vise upon an overshoot is also provided.
