    Abstract: A band saw machine with a lifting rod whose position is adjustable to accommodate various sized workpieces includes a movable member which is mounted on a saw frame and movable relative to a movable clamp arm. The movable member and the fixing member each have a rack, and the racks are in parallel to each other. The lifting rod includes a gear shaft engaged with the racks. When the movable clamp arm moves to accommodate the size of a workpiece, the rack of the movable member drives the gear shaft to move along the rack of the fixing member, which causes position change of the lifting rod, so that the lifting rod is automatically moved to a position where it can detect the workpiece in a reliable manner. Therefore, the size of the workpiece to be clamped is not limited by the position of the lifting rod anymore.

The apparatus can stably suppress a displacement of the blade during cutting, thereby cutting the ingot into blocks or sample wafers for crystal quality evaluation stably with good quality cut surface at a higher cutting rate and extending the lifetime of the blade.

    Abstract: A bandsaw machine with a base on which a workpiece table is mounted and a member pivotally mounted to the machine base. The base includes a pair of clamping jaws for the workpiece with the jaw closest to the pivotal mounting being adjustable and with the other jaw being fixed.     Abstract: A band saw machine is provided with a fixed and movable blade guide arm which are set apart by a distance which is proportional to the width of workpiece to be cut. A detector mounted on one of the guide arms senses the lateral deviation of the saw blade during cutting and a control circuit outputs a termination signal to shut down the machine when the deviation is larger than a desired maximum value. When a workpiece of a different width is to be cut the guide arms are reset apart by a distance proportional to the width of the new workpiece and a detector is provided which senses the change of distance between the guide arms and outputs a signal to a revising circuit. The revising circuit then revises the maximum value of deviation to be allowed based on the change of distance between the guide arms.
