A process for the preparation of encapsulated toner compositions which comprises (1) providing a core comprised of a monomer capable of being polymerized by free radical polymerization, a colorant or pigment, a free radical initiator, a polymer and a first shell monomer dissolved in the core monomer; (2) dispersing said core components in an aqueous phase containing a surfactant, an antifoaming agent, and a phase transfer agent; (3) adding a second shell monomer to the aqueous phase; (4) encapsulating the core components by accomplishing polymerization of the first and second shell monomers; (5) heating the aqueous phase dispersion of (2) and (3) thereby effecting in situ polymerization of the core monomers; and (6) heat spheroidizing the polymerized shell of (4) by heating.

Disclosed are amorphous polyesters that contain only renewable resources designed for emulsion aggregation toner fabrication. The amorphous polyesters may be obtained from the mixture of three different monomers: 1,4:3,6-dianhydro-D-sorbitol (isosorbide), nonanedioic acid (azelaic acid), and butanedioic acid (succinic acid). Different polymer properties may be achieved depending on the ratio of these three monomers. By altering the ratio, polymers of high to low acid value can be obtained, as well as different ranges of glass transition temperatures.

A process for making toner particles comprising: (a) forming an emulsion comprising a disperse phase including a first aqueous composition and a continuous phase including molten one or more ingredients of a toner composition, wherein there is absent a toner resin solvent in the continuous phase; (b) performing a phase inversion to create a phase inversed emulsion comprising a disperse phase including toner-sized droplets comprising the molten one or more ingredients of the toner composition and a continuous phase including a second aqueous composition; and (c) solidifying the toner-sized droplets to result in toner particles.

A toner is disclosed that includes a toner binder of a styrene/acrylate resin containing carboxylic acid substituents and epoxy substituents, and optionally a colorant and/or wax. The carboxylic acid substituents act as a curing agent and react with the epoxy substituents, causing rapid crosslinking of the toner. Curing occurs during the fusing process and at a temperature greater than 100° C.

Unsaturated linear polymers have repeating units of a reaction product of a first monomer, a second monomer, a third monomer and optionally a fourth monomer. The linear polymers have a glass transition temperature ranging from about 52.degree. C. to about 61.degree. C. The first monomer should have a weight average molecular weight less than 200. The second monomer may be a dicarboxylic acid or diester which is different than the third monomer. A concentration of second residues of the polymer, derived from the second monomer, ranges from about 3 wt. % to about 15 wt. %, based on the total weight of the polymer. The third monomer is an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester thereof. In the polymer, a concentration of third residues, derived from the third monomer, ranges from about 40 wt. % to about 55 wt. %, based on the total weight of the polymer. The fourth monomer is a diol having a higher molecular weight than the first monomer. In a process for preparing the inventive polymer, the first, second, third monomer (and optionally a fourth monomer) and/or a catalyst undergo transesterification to form the unsaturated, linear polymer.
